Import Camaro SS/RS from the States - whaddya think?

The company above can import cars from the states and do everything for you (shipping, customs etc.). Their fee is US$250 on top of shipping of course. What do you think? Pitfalls? Considerations?

Dealer within the country would be better.
Unless they offer thing like cirtain colours in the states (cough challenger) I would not want the american gague pod. I like being able to have my top speed 300miles an hour over 180 =p |

the issue is how you're going to go there and pick it up and deal with paperwork.
Another company offers to do things like this for around $750 - I'd rather pay that than take a plane flight and put thousands of kms on the car driving it back (possibly getting rock chips before I can apply 3M), and then going through the hassle of paperwork. If a company can do the entire process for you for $750 (shipping & paperwork) - why would you balk at the chance of saving $9000?

Keep in mind that GM won't honour the warranty unless the car has a couple thousand KM's on it (around 7000 I think). Also a US dealer is NOT allowed to sell the car if they suspect it will be exported.

According to an importing info website, once the car is 6 months old you can register it here in Canada for full warranty:

You should check with RIV Canada to get the correct rules for importing to Canada. Registra of Imported vehicles will give you border prices and inspections that have to be preformed. The problem with warranties you have have a dealer honour them

i would do it, i have done it before with an old car, was quite a hassle but if they are handleing it, then why not. their fee may be 250 but you still have to pay RIV, gst, ac tax, inspections, shipping. it all equates to around 3000.00 when you are done. and then you wont have the warrantee until there is enough miles or time on the car but if you plan on modifying then you would eventually eliminate most of the warranteed parts anyways..

Make sure ALL "recalls"/"TSBs" have been performed BEFORE import. RIV will NOT allow re-registration if any outstanding issues...and your "friendly local Canadian Chev Dealer" may NOT be too excited about clearing the paperwork for you...

How long can you drive a car in Canada with American insurance for?
I have a good friend who lives in the States... good enough friend for me to trust him to buy it for me, and if we can't drive it up here with US insurance, to keep it in the states for me for 6 months. Seems like a better deal than trying to buy used or storing it for 6 months. What do you guys think? I'm not in a terrible rush for a new car, and if it saves me $8K on the 2SS.... |

Has anyone done this? I ordered my Camaro last april and still have no build date I'm wondering if I should just buy one from the states. Plus they are way cheaper
