The G8 has a similar active fuel system, and the guys at magnuson were able to put their blower on and maintain the cylinder deactivation. Actually addes some mpg through the maggie. Of course who could drive that car responsibly?

I feel the same way.
I had two A4 Automatic Z28s (1994 and 1999). I thought I was missing something by getting the automatics. So when I purchased my 05 GTO, I went with the 6 speed stick. At first it was fun to drive, but that quickly faded away.
About 12 months later, I hated having to push in the clutch hundreds of times on my way to work in thick traffic. My left knee would even get sore from having to push in the clutch so much.

So I traded in my 05 GTO for an 06 A4 (automatic) GTO. I can't tell you how much better my morning commute is with the automatic.

Yes, the stick is fun to drive. But it really doesn't make good daily driver if you have to deal with a lot of traffic.

If my camaro was just going to be a toy or weekend car, I would most likely get the stick. But because its going to be my daily driver, I'm going with the A6.

Stick for me. Traffic is bad comin from work but not unbearable. I plan on having the car for a long time so 3 years down the road when I retire it from spring and summer DD duty (have a winter beater) I will enjoy it that much more. Plus since I have a winter car I have no need for remote start. I also like the fact that the LS3 doesn't have AFM to cause headaches when modding. If this were a car I was buying for a few years to have a fun and quick driver I would probably go auto.

Not sure what a "computer kid" is, but if he is driving a 350z he ain't rich. Perhaps you meant hundreds of thousands of pennies. And I hope you aren't planning on getting an SS...if you are just learing how to drive a stick then 400 rwhp is going to get your ass killed.

^The camaro is 430hp at the crank, not wheels. But your point is still valid.

To me, it's not about JUST the trans. this may effect your choice, the auto has all that VVT bullshit on it. the manual has an LS3 which is almost 2 yrs old in the corvette world now and you should be able to find many more experienced tuners, cams etc when the things get old.

not to mention i've heard some pretty good pickup from just a computer tune on the LS3 So i would reccomend the car with an LS3 in it if you don't mind shifting gears.

An auto in the 135i is very nice, I have not driven a manual 135i yet. I wish I could, not sure about BMW manuals. I prefer a manual MUCH more, no comparison when it comes to fun. Downshifting on a corner, reving it perfectly and leaving the corner drifting. An automatic has no control compared to a manual when it comes to cornering. My Civic Si is a blast to drive, I couldn't imagine a BMW 135i manual if the manual trans is close to the Si.

How much would a replacement clutch cost for the manual SS Camaro? And how often will it need to be replaced? I've never owned a manual tranny car before. All auto's however I do know how to drive them..

mpg

All this talk about auto vs. stick, and the real question hasn't been answered...

Which one has better mpg? Does the AFM feature push the auto tranny's mpg over the usual short-fall to the manual?

If so, is it enough to warrant the extra $1,000? (If not I'd rather have the stick - if it's not too late to change my order)

I need to know because I will dive mine just over 100 miles per day... almost all interstate.

If its is cost that is keeping you from getting auto, then think of the costs of having a manual which can exceed $1,000 after a few times of simply replacing the clutch. Keep the car long enough and you've spent more on the manual vs an automatic on maintenance. Automatics tend to be nicer on the engine since every shift is perfect. The benefits of afm should give you better gas mileage over the manual or at least even things out on average.

I still would like to know (for those of you who own or Corvette's)...How often do you have to change the clutch and how much does it cost in the Vette since it is the same engine as the Camaro? I know how often depends on many factors like how hard you push it and how often you are in stop and go.. I just want to hear from people who have owned stick's their whole lives and can give me a straight answer since I might be buying myself a manual for my daily driver. Yes I know how to drive stick, I just don't own one and never have..

Nothing but a 6-speed manual for me. I don't care about city traffic or any other factor. There is no other option for me.
