1976 camaro

My aunt has a 1976 chevrolet camaro auto with the 305 (black/black int). it needs some lovin, and it just sits at her husbands parents house with no car cover, no anything. just sitting there. i dunno how much rust it may have, and i wanna talk to her about buying it. so to my camaro buddies, how much should i offer her for this car????? first thing i'd do is put a dove tail spoiler on it as good god it doesn't look right spoilerless. thanks guys.

First, need pictures to gauge.

Second, is it driveable? Do the brakes work, does the car start, does it shift, does it idle properly? Does it need a new battery/alternator/power-steering pump? Are there holes in the floor, do the seat belts work?

These are things you need to find out. To give you an example though, I bought my 79 with a built (I mean $6-7k engine) 350, Turbo 350 and posi rear, with rust issues (hood, rear window, bottom of the fenders, parts of the door etc) for $4500.

i think it needs a battery, and maybe an alternator and it'll run. she told me it has a little rust in the floor on one side?? and the engine and transmission run fine, it's bone stock. so that area would have to be fixed(the bone stock engine/tranny part, lol), so does that help any??

Use this 2nd Gen Camaro price guide to get a better idea:

I just wish the '78-'81 values would go up too, lol.

sweet. i'd say this was a 2500-3000 dollar car. the only thing i hate about it is that it had no spoiler and it makes the back end look retarded. i'm hoping to talk to her about getting it soon.

Spoilers are around $100. on ebay and are easy to install. All second gen. camaro trunk lids are cut on the inside for spoiler installation. I have a 76 myself and love it.

MY76, it's got the 305/auto combo, what combo do you have and what can i do to beef up the 305?? i don't care about monster power, but the 140 stock horses just isn't enough lol.

carb and intake and headers
get rid of the cat too is the first things i would do free up power, but those werent power monsters
you can guy a crate 350 from gmpp for like 4 grand and have almost 350 horse
which would be enough
if you dont have that kinda money, like i dont....
just drive it and upgrade it little by little

Mine came with the same set up. There is not that much you can do with the 305. I pulled mine and replaced it with a 350 and beefed up the rear end a little. It will hold its own with the set up its got now. I kept the TH350 transmission.

careful with the new headers, they can make the solenoid overhead and cuase it to have difficulty starting after it's been running for a while. we had to put a heat shield over our solenoid to take care of the problem and it worked 100% after we had it done.
