Ya know a great invention was that vinyl wrap stuff. It looks better than the tape...works better and you only have to put it on once. I actually had the guy double up on it. On the why no Camaros at the track ? I have seen a few mustangs I just didn't want to throw fuel on the fire here. I estimate it would cost about $10-12K minimum to prep a camaro for safe track duty.....brakes, suspension, coolers, etc. But at the end of the day, racers who become cost effective very quickly, will be reluctant to spend that money on a camaro and still have to "point people by" all day long (if you are slow and holding up traffic, a point by means you are signaling someone to pass you) They will be more apt to spend that money on a C6. Why? The first year of the LS3 platform in the covette was 2008. Those used are about the same price as a 2010 Camaro SS, $30K. A track oriented person will be more satisfied prepping a 2008+ C6 because he/she will spend less in prep, have a more proven, durable ride and be more competitive in lap times. But for a street car my SS is plenty quick and handles great! I've leaned on it into turns, enough to excite passengers....If I leaned on any more, the law would put me in jail. |

My Z06 went 10.92@129.12 with nothing more than drag radials and a CAI (and NO negative DA for me here in AZ).
Driver mod FTW. The ZL1 won't be within 5-8 car lengths (easy) with equal driver skill and traction. It's just too heavy in it's current form. |

At least we're debating just how fast a Gen2 Z06 is and not whether a ZL1 can keep up.
Where are those 10 fastest times? I've never had my Z06 to the dragstrip...they shut most of those down here in SoCal. But I'd love to try. Ya know you can pick up a used Gen2 (2006) Z06 for about $35-38K.... Its the same design as current. So if you want to dominate the dragstrip and the road course and can drive a stick around town.....its the only choice. |

my .02 on this thread.
If you can afford the carbon edition or Z07 the Z06 will be superior everwhere other than seating. Now if you have a generation like I do the ZL1's braking and suspention stock vs stock should be a bit nicer and driven correctly they seem lap even better. power wise I don't have mine yet but Ithink you going to se the Z06 run away from it. The same way the ford guys are going to be dissapointed in there new 55-60k GT500 when they pull up next to a 42-45k used Z06 and get beaten. it will be closer with the shelby but the shelby will struggle to beat it given equal drivers. It is fast enough now though that if the driver of the corvette does not do his part he will get beaten. where with the last generations I could grandma drive and beat them. I have have to be honest I am a bit dissapointed in the 1/4 mile time of the stock zl1 cars but they have been mostly auto's so far and just like with any car if people don't know how ot manage the modes or spin too much times will suck. we will see when I get mine I have buddies with GT500's and Z06's so I won't quit wrenching on the car until they see my tailights ha ha. I am hopeing pulley's, tune, CAI, heat exchanger will get me close to the Z06. if not might have to look into snout, longtubes, injectors. acceleration wise though the ZL1 is just to heavy to hang with a Z06 stock vs stock. the shelby is kind of the same. If they shaved the shelby down to 3500 like the boss that things only rivals would be the GTR and the ZR1 for way more money. for me I want the balanced drive. I have driven challengers and they don't have it. all the GT500's I have driven don't have it. Not sure about the new one yet. I think it will be a major handful on conner exit but until there is some footage of it or I find one to drive I won't know.

So is that why you are selling your Z06 and buying a ZL1. Balance? I can understand that.....
If you like to wrench, I'm sure you know you can slap an A&A or ECS kit on that thing (the Z06) and get to 700 easy. That'll be a low 10 car.....the ZL1 will never be there. How many miles on your car? |

Test drove a c6 today, whole car creaked and moaned and a bit uncomfortable(ride was smooth but didn't like the way you sat.). Personally i think the only thing holding back a zl1 is GM itself, not wanting zl1 to get to close to their corvettes. They did it in the 60s and they doing it again now. The engine can produce a lot more power and we got plenty of room to keep it cool, zl1 will never handle as well, but should go faster/just as fast.
