Anybody use e85 fuel?
A local gas station by me has just started selling e85 fuel. It's like 60 cents a gallon cheaper. Anybody with a 2012 V6 use it yet and does it have any effect on performance. Don't know too much about it. Any insight would be helpful. I would like to save on gas money if I could use it all the time

There's tons of information on E85 available. You not knowing much about it is because you haven't looked. Not counting the fact that your car isn't setup for running it, it's actually more expensive to run it on a DD. While it may be cheaper by the gallon, you have to physically use more of it equal what you get from gas, hense less MPG's. If it truly is 60cents cheaper around you, you might break even. Around here, the difference is quite a bit less.

Even if the camaro could take e85 its not worth it unless the cost of the gas is about 40-45% cheaper than standard gas (thats about the break even point). it may be cheaper, but you suffer in gas milage BIG time!

I have run E85 in my truck 100% since the Summer of 2010. It is either E85 or premium with the 6.2. I get 14% less mpg with E85 but with price I at least break even. Currently E85 is $1.00 a gallon cheaper so it is actually costing quite a bit less at the moment .

Forget about cost and mileage. None of the Camaro engines were made to run on E85 and it will corrode your fuel system seals and possibley cause other problems. Ethanol is much more corrosive than gasoline and engines meant to run on E85 are engineered accordingly.

I was researching this yesterday actually. There is a guy on the Corvette sites and his LS3 has no issues and is tuned to take advantage of the higher octane. +40 rwhp. The fuel system apparently has no problems with it, just the computer is not able to switch back and forth in stock form like other GM engines.

the injectors in e85 vehicles are much much bigger because you need more fuel to drive the same speed. you would need bigger injectors and a tune to spend the same amount on gas. e85 also collects water so in a car designed to be a pleasure vehicle its not a good thing.

I would never run e-85 in a car not designed for it. Engine may run lean on e-85= more heat and besides that fuel economy will suffer. Although I did not buy my car for fuel economy.

not true. the LFX is indeed designed to run on E85. but the car's fuel system is not, so you can't use it in the car. |

Less energy than gasoline. It's a sham "feel good": you pay less but put fuel in more often.
When I was 18 in 1989, leaded gas- the gas the '70 Buick I was driving was made to burn- was 67 cents a gallon. In 2013, I pay just about 4 bucks a gallon for 93 octane unleaded. It's so much easier for me to come up with gas money in 2013 it's not funny.
