New 2013 Camaro 2LT --To trade or not to trade--
So guys I have some questions for you, I was thinking about trading in my new Camaro for a 2013 2SS. What do you guys think? I was thinking either the 2SS or the new 2014 Corvette Stingray. I didnt think I wanted the 2SS when I bought it in November 2012, but now I kind of regret it! Especially since I have an automatic tranny :(

You're going to take a bath on it regardless. Theres a 20k price difference between the SS and the Stingray. Maybe a used low mileage 2012 SS? Just doesn't seem like a smart financial decision to lose your ass on a car you bought November 2012...

Well you wouldn't be the first to do it but you should be prepared to take a big hit on the deal if you do. You may even want to wait till the 2014's come out and see if you can get more bang for your buck.

You are going to take a real hit on the trade, really the decision is up to you. I traded my 2011 LLT for a 2013 SS and love it, but I think you'd be nuts to to it now as you are going to lose some major $$.

You have a choice....you can either be happy or smart. Not sure you have any middle ground in this situation.

Should I try to sell it then? You guys think I would get more that way? It only has 3600 miles on it. I owe about 30k on it now.

You're gonna lose money and be upside down on your loan.
Another point that comes to mind is, if you owe $30K on a 2013 2LT/RS that means you put $0 down when you bought it, so why are you already looking to upgrade to a more expensive car and add $10K to your loan? You have a great car, enjoy it and don't look for something better cause there will always be a better, more expensive car.. |

I put down 8k on it. I owed on my truck that I traded in.
edit* Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my car, it is the first new one I have ever had. I am 23 and paid for it all by myself so that makes me very, very proud of it and myself. I just kind of regret not getting the manual tranny and the 2SS. Then I saw the new 2014 corvettes, I NEVER liked the corvettes but the new one is oh so sweet. |

I bought a V6 camaro before...it was much more fun adding mods to that because you always try and get more and more power. So you can have 1.) a SS like everyone else, or 2.) a bad ass 2LT that noone else has.
I mean unless you're rich and can throw money away on a SS then do that but it's not worth losing all that money over for a few extra horsepower... Plus I get 10 miles to the gallon in my car. So consider that too |

Keep in mind the most positive post I've read about this is the one that states you're not the first to do this. The rest seem to be questioning your sanity with this move. Like I said...you can either be happy or smart. If you've got more money than sense then go get exactly what you want and use this as a learning experience....research your buying decisions THOROUGHLY before pulling the trigger on a non-trivial purchase (i.e. new vehicle). |

You should factor a depreciation of about 20-30% for trade-in value. Unless you can put a down payment to offset that amount then you're likely not going to find a bank to give you a loan.
Selling it yourself is an option and obviously a hassle. It's also a turn-off for a buyer knowing the car still has a lien on it. Good luck with your decision! |

Also, I don't want to mod my car until the warranty runs out, so thats out of the question. I haven't made up my mind I just wanted to know what smarter, more mature people had to say about this. Since I don't have alot of experience as a buyer.
Edit* If I was to get a stingray, I was going to put at LEAST 15k down. Last edited by krillik; 02-13-2013 at 10:34 AM. Reason: added info |
