I was thinking about tinting my windows and should do it before the September 1st law goes into effect. I don't want a window sticker included in the tint job!!

SB 589 requires that a vehicle equipment safety compliance label be placed on a windshield, side or rear window stating that the window tinting complies with the appropriate provisions of the Transportation Code. Failing to place the required label on the vehicle could lead to a $1,000 fine.

They have had those stickers forever and are supposed to use them but will not if you ask.. They are the postage stamp sized ones that go in the corners of the windows. They are placed in between the tint and the glass.

They say something like VSC comlpiant and usually have the tint places logo and phone number.

The tint shop I used showed me the sticker and asked if I wanted it on or not. I said no, he said ok.

I know up in Tyler, TX the cops are VERY HARD on vehicles with illegal tint because of what happened a few years back...

Two LEO's pulled up on blacked out cadillac-style car, talking to driver, passengers in back seat opened fire thru blacked out back windows and killed both officers...was very saD!

its passed and goes in affect 9/1.. question will become is who will be liable if the sticker is not there

I'm just glad these people listened back in March and amended the bill before it passed. The original text actually changed the legal limit on the door windows from 25% to 35% Net VLT. To hit 35% Net VLT, you would have to go with 45 to 50% tint on the door windows.

20% All the way around has never caused my any issues with the law. No stickers
ever. And I have had tinted windows since 1980. Just keep the "eyebrow" tint above the AS1 line. That has got me 2 times on two different vehicles this year alone.
