Today, I don't think that would be a problem. The cars are the same on the outside, they just use stickers to make them look different.

No, they have different noses, hoods and side panels that are manufacturer specific that more closely resembles the production cars.

Correct. The green line is the production SS outline. And while they would technically have 3 years for all teams to make the change (There are still Chargers that run in Xfinity) not all teams would and they'd still have to test it if a whole new body was being made.

Actually those are Challengers not Chargers in Xfinity, it's been more than three years since Xfinity series switch to Challengers.. And some teams are still running Dodge/Ram trucks in the truck series.

Unless they're just cancelling that name, which I think would be ridiculously unlikely, that really sucks.

Simply a reflection of the times. What percentage of the market would the CT8 fit? 0.001%? There is far more money to be made in SUV's and crossovers. Given Cadillac's current model range they will likely shift 100% of efforts to CUV's.

I understand the market considerations. But brand image is important as well.

But when you think of Porsche, do you think crossovers or sports cars? Because most of their sales come from crossovers these days, and yet if you ask anyone to think of a Porsche odds are they'll come back with the 911. That is the heart and soul of the brand. With BMW, its the 3 series. For Cadillac, the role of the iconic, brand defining car is held by the El Dorado. Now, its been about 15 years since they had an El Dorado & even more since they had a good one. But thats still the car that most people think of when they picture what a Cadillac should be. And that is why they need a car like that. Big, bold, and executed so well that it raises the image of the whole brand -so that all those crossovers & smaller sedans that they need to sell are better by association. The CT6 is not such a car. Neither is the Escalade. Nor will any crossover.

To be fair though, we don't really know anything at all about CT8. If it was the $300k+ super luxury sedan rumored, I had my doubts as to the viability of that program in the first place. If it was the S-class competitor, then its cancellation is much more disappointing.

According to road and track it was to be an S class competitor.

What the hell is going on at Cadillac. They have these great cars that arent selling, they are in the middle of introducing an awful naming structure and now cancelling the flagship program.

My opinion is the exterior styling. It's just rather bland compared to other offerings. Their interiors are great now and I think they're # 2 in class behind MB, but yeah those exterior looks. Didn't the Caddy chief say they were going to start adjusting their designs and move towards a more softer and rounder look instead of the edge thing they're doing now?
