3.73 vs 3.91 gears in an SS A6
Is anyone running the new 3.91 gears with an SS A6? If so how do you like it?
What would be better for an SS A6, 3.73 or 3.91 for someone who drives every day? |

I do not have the A6 but with its low 1st gear 3.91s would be over kill i bet you will smoke the tires every time you try and play. 3.73s are about perfect unless you have a lot of mods.

i love my 3.70s...with a blower, you won't want any more gear than that.

3.70/3.73 are all you need. Just don't buy any richmond gears.

I'd prefer LPE gears. I do have a automatic trans.
I got you on the FI setups. But since I just have bolt ons and a very mild cam I'm not shure if I could also go for the 3.91 gears. |

If you aren't planning on drag racing and trying to match the right gear for your trap speed then go with whatever.

Yes I wont drag race. But a lot of city/stop&go and some highway traveling. I'm just not shure with thte 3.91 because a friend told me that this is just to crazy for the A6 and even bone stock you'll have traction problems with a 3.91 - is that true?

3.91 in a mild street car is overkill IMHO. I have LPE 3.70's.

I have LPE 3.91 in my 2010 A6 with a Maggie on top. Its alot of gear for a supercharged L99 but once you get used to them, they are amazing. I had the 3.73s before this and would not go back.
Fuel milage is not a huge difference, slightly better in town, slightly less on the highway, averages out about the same depending on how much of each you drive. Dramatic kick in the rear compared to factory 3.27 gears!!! 1st gear can be pretty wild, almost uncontrolable if you mash the throttle so you have to be careful.

As mentioned. Be careful.
The L99 A6s has a very aggressive 1st gear and it can easily become useless with too much gear. |
