Thanks
They all use the USB standard which specifies a range of acceptable voltages/amps (around 5v/100mA).

OK. Thanks for the info. I can't remember where I read about the voltage issue. It wasn't Camaro specific though.

Does anyone know if the 7th gen iPod Classic is the only device that will remember the album/playlist you were on, and index on the device? I currently have a Zune 80, and I want my Camaro to be able to remember the album/playlist, but I dont feel like spending $250 for a 7th gen iPod Classic that I wont even come close to filling up.

iphone 3gs works flawlessly for me. Zune was a horrible experience and caused me to jump ship, even though Im a big Zune fan.

5th or 6th gens work the same way as the current model with one caveat... the 5th gen is a bit slow and won't let you change songs as quickly as you may want. I bought a used and scratched up 30gb 5th gen off craigslist for $25 and it works fine.

Thanks UCF... I have been scouring ebay and craigslist trying to get one cheap.... haven't used ebay in a long time, and man it really sucks now!

Finally got a 6th gen iPod classic. Works flawlessly in the Camaro. All the issues I had getting my Zune to work are gone! As much as it pains me to say this, I am happy with the iPod.

I tried my ipod shuffle, but it wasn't even recognized.
Similar to his review of the iPod Nano in my opinion. Mine works ok but it is definitely buggy. Sometimes it just locks up and you have to unplug the USB and reconnect it, other times Ive had to turn off the car and open the door then disconnect it and start the car back up.

Also the navigation between Artists, Albums and songs is buggy. Sometimes when you choose Artists you get a list of the songs instead of Albums, then you have to hit the back button and hit Artists again to see a list of Albums. Same with Albums and sometimes all the Albums dont show up in the list when navigating by Artist or Album. It usually remembers the last song that was played, but sometimes it plays that song then starts to play the next song from the All Songs list as apposed to the Artist or Album that you were listening to previously.

I have been very disappointed in the way my iPhone works with the Camaro, it is very buggy in my opinion and gets frustrating when you are constantly playing with buttons and going back and forth in order to find the right song or album. From a navigation a USB thumb drive with a good directory structure (Artist,Albums,Songs) navigates 10x better and more seamlessly then the iPhone. Unfortunately there are a few other issues with just a thumb drive. I think I am going to pick up an iPod classic and give it a try.

I have the iPhone 3G by the way not sure if the 3Gs is any better or not.

I have playlists on my wife's ipod and when i plug it into my 2011 camaro it works like a dream. I can access all the playlists from the stereo display and they play just fine.

My question is, is there any way to get the same functionality on my android phone? When i plug it in, the camaro "indexes" and seems to recognize all my songs and artists which is fine. But i really want it to recognize the play lists i have on the phone and i cant seem to figure out how to get it to that. Any tips?

What USB "mode" do I need to put my phone in? Just usb mass storage mode? will any of the other modes work? I really want to be able to use my phone like an ipod.

Well people. I have finally figured it out. Here's how i got an android phone to work properly with my camaro.

Download winamp and use winamp to sync with your phone. Then do a separate playlist sync.

Then it should work fine. this is the only thing i have found that makes my car recognize playlists.

It takes over 5 minutes to index the first time. After that, its over a minute. I dont know if it will get any faster.

A minute is an awfully long time. I'm thinking about getting a zune or true mp3 player.

2 reasons. 1) The sound quality on bluetooth sucks compared to USB. Second, i dont want to have fiddle around with my phone to change songs or playlists, i would like to just be able to do it on the stereo.

to the original poster, what is your pdim software/firmware. I have a 16gb gogear muse and it will not show up in my car. Also what setting is the player on mtp or msc. Thanks.
