Trade-in values at all time high

Just saw a bit on my local news about trade-in values at an all-time high. In fact the guy they interviewed bought a new black convertible SS (it was funny to see the perma-grin-the guy told the reporter "just LOOK at it!").

Anyway, he got 20K for a Chrysler he bought for a little over 20k a few years ago. According to the dealer they interviewed inventories are down and they're putting more money into used vehicles than ever before.

WHICH begs the question-with 2012's just coming out, has anybody traded in for a new Camaro, if so, what did you get for your trade? I will NOT be trading, since I have an ABM and have her modded just they way I want. BUT for the rest of y'all NOW may be the time to move to a new Camaro!!!!

Thought about it myself, but I have so many mods that I'll probably loose to much money. SS w/gfx, st. 2 cam, headers, cats, 3" exhaust, and supercharger.

Honestly if it was not for the steering wheel change over, I would consider moving into a 2012 model. In all likelyhood however if I ever trade the SS in, it will be for a Vette, or possibly next gen Camaro or 'Stang

I did not trade in, but I offered to trade in my 07 Cobalt and they offered $8K which I though was pretty fair as I got it for $14K just over 4 years ago. Decided to keep it though and just made up the difference in my loan with good terms.

It kinda depends on weather or not the vehicle being traded in is in demand at the time of the deal and how cunning the sales person is.

My 2010 SS only has 1800 miles. It would be pointless to trade it in for anything but a ZL1. Aside from a few small details theres nothing changed performance wise. Keep in mind the dealer can "show" you more money for your car by not coming down in price on the one you want to buy.

Right, it amazes me with all the info out there on the internet, people don't understand how to buy/trade-in a car.

Right, NicolasKL. And then there's financing, add-on costs, and regional differences, which can skew things even further. Can get real muddy, real quick!

They either get you on the front side or the back side or in the back room. Dealers are in business for one reason and one reason only. To make money.

Isn't that why we all are in business?

I traded a 2008 Jeep JK in for my '11 camaro. It was 3 years old, had 48,000 miles, and had obvious signs of being off-roaded (rock rash). I originally paid $18,500 for it new. They gave me $15,500 for it, AND knocked off $1000 off the camaro's sticker to make the deal work.

I literally laughed when I saw it on the lot the next week with a window sticker of $21,200 on it. Only $100-200 less than what it stickered for brand new.

Either they have some serious wishful thinking, or theyre banking on an idiot to think its a good deal. (and if they can actually make $5000 off of my trade, more power to them.)
