I wanted to try one to hold me over until the ZL1 comes out. Hell come to think of it, if it's more geared toward the GT500 maybe it won't fit my style either. I just have the feeling that GM is going to make this thing handle though. The 620HP that is coming on the next SVT, GT500 or whatever they're going to called won't mean a hill of beans if they don't get traction into it. I watch 2010 and 2011 GT500s run slower than expected every week at the track do to the fact that they just can't get off the line. What will adding almost 100Hp do for that?
tires are one of the first mod/s when a person is serious about racing a car

I just pay attention to everything everyone says and then I cross reference for errors.

Ford Racing only has two strut/spring packages, three if you count the Autocross setup. The last '13 GT500 mule (both grey mule and blue mule) had an extreme drop front and rear. It was much lower than the current GT500 and anything Steeda, Roush and Saleen offered. Those aftermarket companies are great benchmarks because they also use a 20" tire. The Cobra Jet springs are an extreme drop and work best when paired with the CJ/FR500 adjustable dampers. There is an issue going that low in the rear though, it doesn't allow the Live rear axle that much room to travel for handling. I'm not saying that is will completely destroy the handling characteristics, but going that low may not be optimal.

Just free thinking here but, this might be a return of the "Drag Pack" option. Heres alittle wiki for ya.
Quote:
At the start of the 1970 model year, Ford began installing the Drag Pack on approximately 10% of Boss 302 Mustangs. For those who were aware of it, this free Drag Pack upgrade was available simply by ordering a 4.30 rear axle ratio
Now, if 2013 is truly 1970 in Ford's eye's, We might see a true "Drag Pack". Maybe not on the Boss 302, but maybe the SVT with an option to counter the SVTPP... When Carrol Shelby built the 2011 GT350, it was known that the base suspension would be Ford Racing catalog parts, the upgraded Eibach set up is available too but a birdy told me that Motor Trend tested the FR mid-level package and Eibach was only available in SCCA N/A trim.

I try to be open as much as possible on here and say what I'm thinking, hearing or working on... It sometimes gets my thread privileges revoked.

So, for $60,000 dollars you could get the SVT Cobra "Terminator", a street legal drag car. For $79,000 dollars you can get the SVT Cobra Jet, an off road drag car.
Boss 302>Boss 302R>Boss 302S
SVT Cobra>SVT Cobra Jet>SVT Cobra Jet 4.0

And I'm sure you can throw a Cobra R in there to bridge the gap like the Laguna Seca. I have heard that the 2013 Boss 302 will sport the traditional 1970 "hockey" stripes and would resemble the Championship Trans-Am edition Bud Moore car.

2013 will be a celebration of the past 49 years, so expect alot of cool renditions from Ford and the Aftermarket companies.

Great recipe to keep your sales behind the camaro don't you think.

Base 2011 GT500 is roughly $49k but you'd be lucky to find a base model anywhere. GT500 owners will tell you, a set of better tires is the ONLY thing the GT500 needs to put the 302 behind in a straight line.
Yes, tires are a pretty easy fix to hit easy 11's. Add about $4k in mods and you are running with ZR1's in a straight line. It has been said before, if you don't understand the GT500, perhaps you just "don't get it"....

Someone threw a subtle render of the 2013 GT500 up on http://forums.themustangsource.com/f...492948/index6/

Very small changes here, but that's how it starts. You can see some harder edges and some HIDs... also note the rear tire width. This render looks professional, could be a Ford bump... Anyone notice what paint scheme this GT500 is using?

Fake scoop needs to go, give us the dual heat extractor please or Cobra pits... The paint work makes the edges come out, otherwise it would be almost the same. This GT500 has been dropped bigtime, starting to see a "New Edge" calling in this color. Sharpen the lines and work the fascia Ford... I would like to see this pic get more involved with the rendering.

I would like to see them take styling from the Trans Am Cobra, Especially the interior. I hope the new NASCAR Mustang looks like this.

Some of those 2013 GT500 renders I twisted on, tryin to lose the retro and at the same time, don't go Charger. Tryin to get the fastback worked in there but have to be careful... I can easily be mistaken for a station wagon.

I had 5 decent ones but they didn't save so I got beginning and end. The grille needs straighten up on the bottom one big time...

Yea the Boss won't get close to that.

Trap speed is a pure function of power-to-weight.

The GT500 to around 4 mph of that.

the boss will never touch that. I bet once it has a few years under its belt, we'll see a best run of somewhere areound 11.5@120mph with a stock boss with drag radials. Just the fact that its at such a huge disadvantage power wise and yet can still beat it around some tracks speaks volumes on how well built a machine the Boss really is!! i never thought id see the day where a stock mustang would be seen as better overall or "track car" than a corvette, and an upgraded corvette (z06) at that!

Is it true that the red key isn't available yet and if so, does anyone know when it will be? I'll be very interested to see the difference.
