Bought 08/11//14, should my cabin filter be this gross?

The air quality inside the car is completely different now.

I complained to the dealer when I first bought the car that it smelled like construction zone (they built the dealership with cars on the lot getting smothered in dust) inside the vehicle w/ the HVAC system running. I told them to replace it. They ozonized it or w/e, said the part was a special order and they didn't have any in stock.

So I said f them. Fast forward 5 months (16000 miles) and I finally replaced it myself.

Can't believe I was breathing that shit in.

Pic coming..

IIRC that filter gets drawn through with the system on. Otherwise just sitting there it would not accumulate that much junk. Glad you got it changed, i too like fresh air!

I've been thinking about changing mine or at least checking it.

Just a side note: That's what was caught so you didn't breath that particular shit in..

I hate to say it looks like flood damage. What does your battery compartment look like?
Damn what?! Seriously? What should I look for and take a video of?

Do you mean battery compartment in the back?

I replaced it with this CAI intake shortly after purchased the car.

I've seen a few other posted pics of original cabin air filters and i bet the first one has some sort of coloration that makes it look like that. My 1st filter looked exactly like that too. It's like a charcoal color, it might give filtered air a better smell instead if a musty filter scent.

op that is not flood damage....if the filter was wet the material would be broken down a lot more . That's just dust and dirt.

My Jag uses carbon filters and they look just like that. I bought a replacement filter for the Camaro when I replaced the other and it was white just like the one it came with. I haven't changed it yet as I only have about 7,000 miles on the Camaro. While I was searching I found you can get just about any filter with the carbon impregnations if you want to pay for it.
The OPs filter looks like it was changed with a carbon one. Or perhaps GM is install them now.

So probably nothing to be freaking out about.

My filter looked the same when I changed it. Nothing to worry about. Just an option--I ordered mine off amazon for less than $15 and had it here in less than 2 days.
