Supposedly it sounds different when its changing over to AFM? I'm not sure, I've never ridden in an L99 car.

Curious to the OP's question as well. Someone should start a compilation thread comparing the LS3 to the LS99 on both the stock exhaust note as well as AFM. Any takers?

Yes, it does because of the resonator on the L99. The resonator is needed so that it is hard to tell the difference between V8/V4 modes. The trade-off is, the L99 sounds a little tamer than the LS3, but not by much.

They sound different for several reasons. The L99 exhaust is different in a number of ways - the biggestbeing the massive resonator under the centre of the car. Don't know what goes on in there. Obviously sounds different when AFM is kicking on/off. But I understand the cam and timing is different b/c of the auto tranny, AFM and remote start all require things to run a little smoother. It's more technical than that but that's a high-level explanation.
We'll leave out the discussions about auto vs. manual - but all I know is the engine sound of the auto when shifting just doesn't turn my crank. Then again with my diverters wide open I can't hear myself think so maybe it's all in my head

I've driven an L99 and own a LS3, the LS3 is a louder and sounds better. When I'm driving down the road, heads are already turned before they see me. I especially like to hear the exhaust sound when I'm changing gears.
