I pickup my 2013 Camaro Tomorrow. How screwed am I?

So tomorrow morning I go to pickup my 2013 2SS 6M. The thing is, I've never *owned* a standard transmission car. I've driven my brothers Jeep (somewhat successfully, onroad and off). And I drove my moms Mini Cooper S 6-speed a few times on the highway (quite successfully). But the last time was 5 years ago (in the mini cooper). How screwed am I that I will be having to drive this home from the dealership?

The good thing I guess is the first hour of the drive back is just on the highway.

You will make it back. It may take awhile to get the hang of it. It's a heavy car with a small sweet spot in the clutch. I was in the same situation as you were in. It took me about 500 miles of city driving to get pretty good at it.

If you have driven a manual before, it's a 6th sense kind of thing. I hadn't owned a stick in over 3 years before I bought the Camaro, and it took a test drive to get back into the swing of it. You'll be fine.

Well, don't consider the highway as your easy part, if the car has <1500 mi you will need to downshift and up shift because you have to vary engine speed. You won't want to get on the highway and put cruise on.

Don't worry.....you have experience driving a stick and it will come back to you. I hadn't driven manual in YEARS when I test drove and then bought my Camaro and it was no problem. The only thing I can tell you.....don't wear flip-flops!

It's really not hard. I learned stick on a beat up old, early 90's Renault.

My first night driving stick on my own was the night I bought my WS6. And I had a 30 mile drive in the pouring rain with lots of road challenges. Got home no problem.

it's the same as the expression, "you never forget how to ride a bike." once you get around a little in the Camaro, you will be fine. Even seasoned manual drivers have a transition period with a new car. Every clutch has its own sweet spot.

It is like riding a bike. You should do fine, it will just take some time to get used to the camaro's clutch.

LOL - when I took one for a test drive it had been nearly 7 years since I drove a manual. I was nervous, but ended up being fine. No bucking, no clutch smell, it came back pretty quick. Just don't stop on any hills . Ah, even if that happens the worst thing is you beat on the clutch a little. You'll be fine. Then after the nerves go away you'll realize how fun it is to drive a 6 spd!

Head over to your local Ford dealership today and test drive a manual car to get a feel for driving a manual
