I honestly wish they would ditch the supercharger and bring a 570ish HP pushrod V8 to prove that Chevrolet has brute power and don't need a supercharger to whoop a$$. I know thats not possible in this economy, or cost effective.... but its the point that Chevy has never really used SC's till the ZR1 and CTS V.

I'm betting the LSA, because it will be the cheaper way to go. The engine is already out there and proven. I think it will also get the CTS-V's brakes. Horsepower will be an even 550, probably through a restricted air cleaner setup. GM may be back to profitability, but they're not exactly flush with cash for R&D.

600 for the simple reason of saying it has 600. I can see the commercial now!

The 2011 Shelby has 550.....so I know it wont be 556.

I think there will be some serious cannabalization of Vette sales if they provide anything north of 600 HP..

From a marketing standpoint the Z28 is being made to close the gap between the current SS model and the competition's GT500...while at the same time staying far enough away price & performance wise from the Corvette.

If the performance numbers gap between the new Z-28 and the vette (minus the Zr1 of coarse), is too small and doesn't yeild enough advantage of purchasing a Corvette over a Camaro...more people will most likely choose the Camaro over the Corvette. I know there hasn't been a price released for the Z-28 yet, but im assuming they will space them fair enough apart...again, which is why they need to be careful about how much power they put into this thing.

That being said, maybe GM doesn't mind taking some of the market size away from the Corvette nameplate? I highly doubt this is the case though, throughout history the Corvette and the Camaro have always been #1 and #2 respectively.

Nah, a Vette is always a Vette, people dont just buy them becasue they are powerfull they buy them for the appeal, look and the name.

If you buy a car for just power reasons you could take a fox body and throw in an LS7 427 Supercharged engine in it. For around 30K youll have a car that is faster than any Vette or Camaro.

They could easily push the Z28 to 600 HP without much problem. What do you think the rating will be for the LSA in the Z28?
Would you like to enlighten me on where you read about 3k in mods leading to 620 hp. I have 3k lying around. Most people I've been intouch with have those #'s but your looking and 10K+.

Here's the thing, from performance and price, the base Corvette and the GT500 are essentially on par with each other. So its impossible to beat the GT500 without beating the base Corvette.

The V-6 gets 2.6% more horsepower (312 vs. 304) in the Camaro than the CTS based upon better intake and exhaust. Use the same factor and the LSA in the Z28 will have 570 horsepower.

i'm sayin they stay at 556 to stay competative with the gt500, but as the pony war continues, they will probably one up each other on a fairly regular basis

OK, I am bracing for the backlash, but 600 HP is a very silly amount of power for a street car.
