Which rail distribution does the Oshawa use?
I am looking at this map.....
https://www.csx.com/?fuseaction=customers.tdsi_gis And I see shipping centers at Buffalo and Niagara Falls but the map doesn't designate either one with a yellow triangle to show that it handles automobiles. Philadelphia and Wilmington are designated as such. So I hope someone can tell me where do they load up on the rail car initially.

There is fairly large automotive loading facility right at the GM plant in Oshawa. This yard is serviced by both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways. One or other will be the initial carrier. To get to Charlotte GM will load your autorack in Oshawa and then it will go to either CP or CN. Probably CP, then CP will take it probably to Detroit and interchange it to Norfolk Southern or CSX. Both NS and CSX have facilities near Charlotte. NS has one in Winston-Salem. CSX has an unloading facility in Columbia, SC. I would imagine your car would go by NS as their terminal is closer and wouldn't have to overshoot and back-track by truck from the CSX yard.

No problem, here is the system map to NS.
http://www.nscorp.com/nscportal/nsco...ve/Facilities/ Port Wilmington looks to be the only yard. CSX has one close by too, but it looks to be outbound only. They one in Twin Oaks, PA which is not too far away. Hard to say which way it will go. |

I hope it goes from Buffalo to NYC and then Wilmington. Prolly take a day and a half to reach my dealer once it is on the car.

HeavyD guess what?
I just checked the status and the rail car is in Wakerville, Ontario. So you were right on your first guess, its coming through Detroit. But I am pretty impressed by the fact that it traveled 415 miles in 2 days, since it was "In Transit" as of yesterday morning. My guess is that its going to go through Pittsburgh and Harrisburg to Wilmington DE.

Walkerville is in my neck of the woods. Only 45 mins from my house actually! Walkerville is a junction in Windsor where Toronto to Windsor trains end and cars get sorted for local or interchange traffic. Your car will likely go on a short train called a "Transfer" to Detroit and then go straight to NS railway. It will get switched again to the next outbound train. This is where the slow downs start and the average distance per day drops big time. Autoracks are pretty high on the priority list as the auto makers pay good money to ship parts and finished cars. Too bad we didn't have real-time updates. I live only 10 mins from the CP mainline, I could sit trackside and get pictures of your car on the train as it comes through. Oh well. I did find another picture of your railcar though.
