66 and counting to six on shifting

I have the V8 with six speed - most of the time my shift is 1 - 3 - 5,

First gear - shift to 3 at 17 - 22 mph, 5th at 35 - 50.

Car has plenty of torque and net result is like the three on the tree I grew up with.

If you can at all afford the SS, get the SS. If you cannot afford it, take up a collection and get the V8. You will regret not getting the V8 if you settle for the six.

The V8 is a blast. Redline at 80 in second.

No problems with the stock shifter. Purists may want the Hurst.

Get the V8 (you are retired). The must do is to order the short throw shifter option, or consider getting it installed at the dealer. Not sure if the short throw is available for the V-6 since it uses a different transmission.

I'd recommend going to drive both and see what you think.

But I've lost count of the number of people who bought a V6 thinking it would be enough, then traded it a year or 2 later for a SS. Much cheaper in the long run to buy what you really want to start with.

The Hurst short throw makes the SS just a joy to drive. Hurst is no longer available from the factory but you can get them aftermarket, GM is offering their own short throw in the '13+ cars, I don't know how it compares.

I was seriously thinking about the v6 manual as a daily driver. I test drove it after I drove the v8 manual. The v6 did not shift as well. The salesman commented: "You do realize this is the entry level Camaro (manual v6) configuration".

i love my automatic, however, before i bought, i test drove a 2010 2SS manual. i had not driven a stick in like 15 years, and was concerned i might embarass myself and stall the car, etc. well, i took it for a spin, and could not believe how easy that car was to shift! my wifes 88 Ford Escort 5 speed was a bear to shift. but the camaro was so smooth, i had no issues at all. it seemed like 1st gear was of no use to me, i alwasys started in 2nd. but, it sure drove nice, but for a DD, i wanted a auto.
