A/C Vents

I was thinking of painting (with aerosol's Duplicolor Engine Enamel) my central A/C vents, but coming across that DIY on the older model of a Camaro, it seem a bit off. I have a 2014 Camaro with a mylink, if that makes any difference.
Here's my question: Is it better to mask everything remotely close to the vent (but the area to paint), or take everything out and paint it?
