Question Is the Camaro as wide as the specs indicate?

First off, I'm new here. I've been reading a lot of threads to catch up on the new Camaro.

From the Facts sticky thread, I see these dimensions: Coupe: L x W x H = 186.2 x 79.1 x 53.47 (inches)

Having not seen the concept in person, is the Camaro really going to be as wide as the 79.1 inches indicates? Does anyone know how wide the door swing will be when open?

I ask because my garage is already cramped with my '97 C1500 and my wife's '04 Expedition. The new Camaro is as wide as an '08 Suburban, about 2.5" wider than my truck, and just a bit wider than my wife's Expedition. Throw in the longer doors on the Camaro and I'll never be able to get out of the car when the Expedition is already in the garage (Not that being stuck in my Camaro would be a bad thing! ).

Thanks.

welcome, fellow Texan (I'm actually in Houston right now sitting in the hotel waiting for a train home )

to the best of our knowledge, those are the correct specs... expect the door swing to be about the same as that of a 4th gen, which was pretty long... our solution to the "too wide to get out of" problem was to park the 4th gen in backwards, so that the door opens towards the larger opening between the cars... worked like a charm for our two f-bodies ('02 Firehawk and '01 Z28) that were in the house garage

I've heard that it will be a bit narrower than the concepts specs. but less than an inch different. If you are not sure of how wide the concept is, look at that picture of the concept driving side by side with the '69.

Oh, and if all else fails, just get a 'vert.

Well seems like the logical answer is to park both the Ford and the 1500 outside and let the Camaro have full run of the garage! At least thats what I'm gonna do!!! Boat out of the garage and Yukon out. Camaro in with plenty o' room to breathe!!

At least you guys have garages... my baby gets a car cover in the winter, which means that I also get to put a chair by the windows over looking my driveway and a shot gun in the chair.

Think of it this way, you will feel like a racecar driver going in and out of the window. Otherwise I say let the Camaro have the whole garage

I probably wont have a garage for the first few years I will own my 5th gen:(

Well, getting a 'vert is probably out due to my budget.

Backing it in to allow for more space between the vehicles is a good idea. Why the heck didn't I think of that?

Climbing out the window is a possibility (still young, thin, and flexible enough to actually pull it off). T-tops would make it easier but that isn't likely to happen. At least the kids would think it was cool! Luckily they haven't been exposed to Dukes of Hazard (yet!).

The Expedition has been kicked out of the garage on occasion so that is also an option and it may very well be what happens the first time someone opens the door into the side of my Camaro.

Now, public parking spaces is another issue that I'll have to deal with. I don't want to be labeled as "that guy" who thinks his car is so cool he needs to park all the way out away from everyone or over 2 spots. Hell, I just needed to be able to get in and out of the door.

Why, I do that now and all I have is a Cobalt. Nothing pisses me off more than someone slamming their door into the side of my car. Plus I also park out there, cause my fat ass can use the exercise.

except that I drive a Civic... and I'll be darned if some jacka$$ still finds a way to open his door into my car... in a parking lot full of room, there's always the dummy that has to park next to someone and that guy always opens his door into your car

I have to slither my way out of the 79 Z/28. Those are some long a$$ doors. I think the 2nd gens have the longest doors of all the Camaros. I don't have specs to back that up so I could definitely be wrong.

Park the trucks outside and leave the Camaro alone in the garage. That way you'll have room to wrench and/or detail the car too!
