Underhood insulation help

Okay guys here are the questions?

How do I clean the under hood insulation on my Camaro?

What can I buy that will go on top of insulation and be easy to clean. Something simple yet classy. I have a 1LE. Where can I find them?

I put on a fiber glass custom hood. Not because of dirtiness; I needed a little more space for the Maggie. But if your insulation is getting dirty, having a smooth fiberglass finish will help keep it clean easier! I never ride mine in the rain/snow, so mine never gets dirty.

Carpet cleaner and a soft bristle brush. Don't fuzz it up by rubbing too hard, but just enough to loosen the dirt. You may then be able to respray with the cleaner and wipe it down with a terry cloth rag.

How about just Scotch Guard? You could spray it down and it may gain the ability to be wiped like your carpet or even hosed off when cleaning your engine. You did Scotch Guard your carpets, didn't you?

Why doesn't the ZL1 have insulation and the others do? Because the ZL1 hood is aluminum? I really prefer not having it, glad I don't. Wonder how a LS/LT or SS would do without it?

Wait a minute, I was told my 1Le hood and perhaps all the Camaro SS hoods are aluminum.

If that's true, why can't I remove it or will it hurt the wrap?

All Camaro hoods are aluminum and the insulation is also a fire blanket designed to drop in the event of fire and try to smother the flames. I clean my insulation with a damp towel. The new Silverado hoods are aluminum as well.

How about the '14 SS's? Do they have the insulation? I ask, because if the ZL1 doesn't, maybe it has to do with the extractor, and therefore how does that effect the new hoods with extractors? Anyone

My '14 1le has the insulation. I've always just hosed it off with water.

This Is what I do also. I have a foam gun, and when it is dirty I soap and rinse it clean, then leave the hood up till it dries. Looks brand new.

They are both Aluminium. Removing the hood liner is not an issue if you are referring to paint durability or damaging the hood.

The OEM insulation is designed to cut down engine noise and keep cabin sound in to what is intended. No doubt the aluminum and paint system is made to withstand any possible heat that can be generated from the engine.

On another note, if you are looking for alternatives, we have designed a replaceable hood liner made in 2.5 mm RTM material, is paintable, and can be ordered with optional LED's
