Heads up if you make a glass only insurance claim

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...113081849.html

"This is the point where the industry must say enough is enough. It is insane that a TPA, who is also a competitor in the glass repair and replacement business, should be allowed to conduct inspections of claims reported by independents," said Gary Hart, chief executive officer at eDirectGlass. "For years, eDirectGlass has deployed and advocated technology that allows for electronic field inspection by anyone with a mobile handset or data device. Anyone using eDirectGlass can capture and deliver high-quality photographs, video and written data; however, the TPA's and insurance companies have largely ignored the pleas to allow this data to reach their agents for consideration," Hart continued.

If you have USAA, live in a $0 deductible state, and need a glass repaired/replaced, when you call to make the claim you speak to Safelite Glass Claims which is affiliated with Safelite Autoglass. Once the claim is established you are asked if you have a specific shop you want to do the work, if the shop given is not Safelite (themselves) they will steer you to using them.. they will say things like, "they aren't in our network so we can't guarantee their work, if they overcharge us you will be responsible for the balance, or the glass shop youre saying doesnt excist"..Safelite has been sued many times over this practice... If you still fight to use a local company, Safelite will send an inspector on USAA's behalf to look at the broken glass. Work is then released to the independent local shop for completion if they can't steal the job again... Guys, you all have the right to use any repair/replacement glass facility! Dont let an insurance company or TPA dictate to you where to get the work done at! Also, if you have Progressive, Geico, USAgencies, Hartford, or Unitrin you can expect the same frustration when choosing a local independent shop... Support your local garage's, some of the best technicians and mechanics are around the corner from your home or business.. remember when youre paying your premiums, who your insurance company is supporting...

they had to cancel all those commercials because the NICB reported 400+% increase in glass related insurance claims due to Safelite bringing awareness to it which of course pissed the insurance CEOs off..
