First time dragging the Camaro

So I finally after so long wanting too, I took the Camaro to the dragstrip. Its was a 1/8 mile strip. I wouldn't say it was horribly prepared, but it wasn't bad. I didn't go there expecting awesome results. I am running on damn near bald ass MPSS and I couldn't keep traction worth a damn. I literally had to let off the pedal during my runs because my ass end would start fish tailing. My best run was a 9.2...so crap. Lol. I get my drag radials tomorrow and hope to get back to the track next weekend. Oh and not my first time with drag racing, just a first with this Camaro.

I know!! Omg it was horrible. I couldn't hold any traction through second gear. I can't wait to run with the drag tires.

I know it's been a few weeks since this was posted but have you gone back to the track yet?

You might get into the low 8s with better rubber.

I have gotten new rubber. That and a alignment drop me 2 tenths a second. I still need some more seat time. I don't get much, only dragged the camaro twice now. In working on my launches so I can drop my 60. Finding the right RPM and slipping the clutch is proving difficult. Plus I dont want to burn up my stock clutch too quickly lol. I know I can get into the low 8s. I just need more driver mod. I'm getting there.

I also have some drag radials. Plan on using in the future. Their used, but have some life left. I wanna get faster on street tires before I use the drags.

Put the Drag Radials on and let her eat, no sense wasting passes (Clutch) on street radials if you have drag radials sitting around. Imho

Save your street tires for the Street, get a set of wheels and Drag Radials for the Track.

Should be a mid-low 8 sec 1/8th mile car, even on street tires. Sub 8 second on a drag radial should be possible.

My car, which has a pretty similar build, cuts a 8.399 in the 1/8th mile at 88mph. That's on garbage street tires and a 2.14 60' time.

Here is what my launch looks/sounds like. With all stock cradle/diff bushings preloading on the e-brake really helps.

I totally forgot and just remmebered. I did run the at the track with the traction control on. If memory serves correct I got a 2.2 60ft and around 85mph trap. I am going again this Friday, weather permitting. If I can I will bring my drag radials. But I usually go by myself.

Edit: just found my slip. Got an 8.86 with a 2.2473 60ft and 84.51mph. Fastest time so far.

Whats the point of the drs if your not going to use them? I hauled my 17x10.5 wheels with 325/45 tires in my car all the time. One in the trunk and one in the back seat. Put a blanket or sheet down if your worried about your interior.

Traction control off is A LOT more healthy for the car.... will make you do more of the driving though, and I know we are all piling on but I have friends who go by the let me learn with my street radials first.....

DRs will make it easier to learn. The smaller Margin for error in street radials may cause you to give up or never find the sweet spot (because it is smaller) versus finding the larger sweet spot with Drag Radials "sooner", then if you are on Street tires after that, at least you know where to start looking for it.

Sweet Spot ie... proper Rpm, ebrake preload and clutch to throttle feathering/slipping to launch as fast as possible.

Yea, but I want to get use to street tires right now. Once I get better on those I will tear up the DR. My DR don't have much life left, so I do not want to waste the rubber. I know the DR will be different than street tires, but all in good time. Plus where am I gonna store my other tires and tools? I cant just leave them out in the open. Its hard to trust people.

Yea, I have no clue why I didn't turn it off. I have turned it off numerous other times. I want to race with the DR, planning on it soon. I just want to get a better feel for slipping the clutch at the right rpm. Plus just more time running down the track. I plan on bringing my DR to the track with a buddies truck, so I can bring a jack, tools, and my own air.

What is a good starting point for air in DR? 20psi?
