Not to be negative, BUT; wouldn't Chevrolet put these in the trunk if that had been a good place for them. Once would have to assume that the engineers with hundreds of years of experience among them would have a better knowledge of these things than us.
Also, a number of people have mentioned the amount of raw wire. Take out the weight aspect and just look at the difference of length to some of the component runs. Any additional exposure presents risks of failure. Some of these could actually result in electrical shorts or worse; fires. Very high risk, very little reward. Next look at the time to complete this mod and the work involved. Unless you NEED to free up the space it just does not seem a good ROI. Last we need to consider the aspect of the cars future value. In 20+ years this mod will make your ride less valuable than a stock version. Most mods are invisible or can be rolled back to factory easy enough (remember the note to keep your stock air filter when you put on the K&N - this is why). This mod is fairly permanent. While you might like it, a future collector may very well not. I say spend your time driving the car and enjoying it and stick with mods that will bring long term value and short/long term appreciation. |

Could you imagine trying to sell a rewired car? Um, where is the fuse box? Oh, I rewired the whole car and put it in the trunk. See ya, good luck selling that.
Not a wise idea. Slap a fancy painted cover on it and enjoy not having electrical system problems for the rest of the car's life. |

engineers didnt put it there because of the extra wire and time to run the mess through the body, a couple dollars times a million, adds up to alot of money. OP, i like the idea to keep yourself busy, but wow. like someone said get a second one and run on wire at a time, if you just unhook the one you have, you WILL get wires wrong. there are around 100 connections there. if you get something wrong, how do you plan to diagnose the problem?

Fuse box
It would be nice to have it in the back. It's ugly and it would give me more room for my Procharger tubing I'm having custom made. Good luck

However, I am thinking about cleaning up the engine bay to make more room for my intakes. I need bigger intakes for the turbo setup haha

The best place to move the fuse box and ecm unit is in the area where the cabin filter is located. It's easy to do but takes time! It also won't add any more weight if you move it to the cabin filter area but cleans up the engine bay. If done right, most people would not know the difference anyway. I plan this myself once I find an air intake that will make it look good enough to do. I cleaned up my engine bay as far as I could go up to the point of doing this mod next. Just don't see it worth the time without the right air intake and none out yet that I see worth going any farther yet. I like the balance of the engine bay lay out I currently have. I can't tell you how odd it is to hear someone looking at my engine bay and ask what did you do so far.

Not to revitalize an old thread, but I think people who ask why just don't get it, nor will they ever. Someone doing this kind of modification probably has already decided they are going to keep this car and probably don't care about the resale value 20+ years down the road. There are those who find the reward greater than putting lipstick on a pig by airbrushing their covers.
