Rolling the dice on the install kit. I just had mine installed by GPI, and they didn't need the shim kit. pinion depth and backlash was dead on.

Just got quoted 1800 to 2200 just to swap gears from local dealer
1K at a dealer next town over
An 750 close to Nashville but not sure they fully understood what I wanted.
An couldn't get a warm fuzzy about speedo calibration from any of them.
From another post I made earlier..

Yep, as been said here for awhile.

Save your money guys and don't let the Vendors talk you into spending more than you need too.

Again, these are NOT the old school rear end housings with tolerances all over the place. They are precision machined.

I have personally witnessed 6 sets now installed with NO issues original bearings and all.

It is better to buy the actual Chevrolet Performance kit from your dealer. It includes all the components needed including the speedo cal, and best of all when it is installed by the dealership it preserves your factory warranty.

I just had the 3.91 kit installed in my personal Camaro and I love the results! You will definitely feel the difference. I know loyal Camaro enthusiasts have been waiting a long time for this kit to hit the market, the team appreciates your patience and knows you will love the results too!

Get more info below for the 3.91 kit as well as other cool stuff for your Camaro. And the best part is these components were designed, engineered and validated by the same team that developed your Camaro so you know they're the best. And when installed by your dealer many of these components are backed by Chevrolet and preserve your factory warranty.

I tried to order the gm 3.91 complete kit and was told I have to send gm my vin number before they would authorize the kit to be sold to me. has any one else heard about this?

For a complete diff or gears only they do but for the kit they do not need your VIN. I have several of them on the shelf and did not have to provide VIN numbers for them.

All of this confusion about VIN numbers and warranties is why GM does not do more of this stuff. Most of their dealerships are clueless.

No, just a few heat cycles are different speeds/rpms, recalibration of the speedometer, and then change your diff fluid after the break-in.

This. You are not doing anything that messes with the alignment.

NO, but it will need two new rear tires much sooner and more frequently than it would have with the stock gears.
