New Pontiac GTO???
2009 GTO
Introduction: Given the notoriety and importance of the GTO, we felt it was important that it be better differentiated from it's Holden brother, so we gave the GTO it's own, dedicated body based upon the Zeta platform. We felt that, as Pontiac's "halo" vehicle, it was important that it had to have a strong connection to the past. Slotting above the Firebird, the GTO is a sporty muscle car that has fresh styling, presented in a retro light. Simply put, the GTO isn't GM's Challenger/Mustang fighter. We'll leave that to the Firebird. GTO is intended to sit at the top of Pontiac's lineup; the more expensive, higher end muscle car, positioned at a higher, less accessible price point then the Firebird. We believe it's a true GTO, paying homage to the past greats, but a car for the future. What the GTO would be like if it had continued all these years. The GTO's planned introduction date is late 2008, as a 2009. Specs Sheet: Base Platform: Zeta Drive Wheels: RWD Engines: 6000 6.0L V8 w/400 HP Transmissions: 6 speed Automatic http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=37381 |

I saw a short write up in the Nov. issue of R&T which goes along with your info. Tag. The new GTO is to be based on the Zeta platform, and mentions the same drivetrain as you stated. There's also a rendition of it similar to the one you posted.

Cool deal. I don't know how long it's been on the GMinsidenews website, but ran across it today. Some neat info. I'd sure like to see both of these cars make it into production. I might make a couple minor changes. But, the more muscle cars, the better.

I like that rendering, although the colour is hideous. It'd look mean as Hell in black.
Can anyone post a pick of the Road & Track rendering? The more muscle cars the better |

I hope and pray they do not come out with a Camaro, Firebird, AND GTO..... that would be a little overkill IMO. If GM is tryingto cut costs and increase profits then they need to stick with no more than 2 renditions of this amazing car.....

Another couple of images
Not too different from this photoshop of the Camaro....although this was inteded as a Firebird. Heresy, I know, but I LOVE the front end on that silver Pontiac. The twin headlamps and pointed grille look fantastic.....even better than the Camaro (I know, I'm sorry!) |

I thought it looked like the Solstice too. Not the best for a Firebird. Someone can do better than that, I think.

I agree I think the GTO will be nice when it is redesigned. Well it is nice now but it needs a new retro look to it. But if the GTO comes back out the Firebird will not be able to but. GM may be waiting to see how the Camaro does. and if it does good than they will bring out the Firebird then.
