How about the gaps between the back of the wheel and back part of the colume where the blinkers mount, do those gaps show the 1/2 inch or are the consistent Lside to Rside. good luck

The distance between the back of the wheel and the front housing of the column (where the turn signal is mounted) is identical around the circumference, less than 1/2 " though. I did notice that the distance between the entire column and the dash is smaller on the left than the right - probably to be expected since the bottom part of the column (in the engine bay or wherever it mounts) is too far to the right. The steering wheel and column are fine as a unit - the whole assembly is off-kilter compared to the rest of the car.

I think you should alter your test. Instead of trying to align the string from the same spot on the windows. Line it up so it's flush with the wheel (you'll need 2 people one on each side), then tape it down. the measure the distance to the end of the window.

I knew I had posted in this thread awhile back but let this problem go for too long. So apparently a simple wheel alignment will fix the issue under warranty, and the car will handle better..I anyone has the exact dealer write-up information for this issue, that would be a great help as well.

Nope - when I went to the dealer, they also stated that it was just the way it is. I noticed another thread posted about this now - I'd be really happy to hear if there is a fix for it. Doesn't seem like a standard tire alignment would do the trick tho - those adjustments are at the wheels and shoudn't touch the steering column mount points. But who knows - I will inquire again on my next trip to the dealer.

I mentioned my wheel was off alignment when I brought it in for the recalls. I sat in another SS they had on the lot and it was also off. The right side is closer than the left. Their response was "that's just they way it is" and nothing they can do about it. Something about how the steering column is welded and there is no adjustments.
