Or your right foot is to the floor but then the light shouldn't come on then either.

Buy said resistor. Unplug Cags connector. Insert resistor into unpluged connector. Electrical tape in place. Done.
Its not really that complicated. Car has to be in first gear....above 170 degrees between 15-25mph (I think thats right) and throttle open less than 35%. Been that way since 1993, nothing new here. |

My 2007 Corvette had the skip shift. It does cause a disconcerting moment when it happens. I did not mind it after I got used to it. Here on Long Island, it helps save that 93 octane that you'll be pumping in. I have a heavy foot so it's not going to be much of a problem for me. In hard traffic, it will save me some money.

I'd go with the 15 dollar fix. not the 7 dollar fix. But I was way out in front of the fix. A6

Correct me if i'm wrong please but didn't I read somewhere that you can "fake" a gear change by moving the shifter into 4th w/o releasing clutch then move it into second. I know it sounds like a huge extra step but if you know your in the range, a quick "detour" into fourth then instantly back into 2nd wouldn't be a huge deal.
Again I feel like I read this somewhere but have 0 proof behind it. Can someone yay or nay this please. Thanks |

The 6th gen Vettes have a dedicated CAGs fuse slot in the underhood fuse block where you can substitute a blown Littelfuse "Smart Glow" fuse vs. having to get under the car to install the CAGs disconnect harness at the tranny itself.
A very slick and simple solution (also easily removed for warranty work). These special fuses look like this: Does the 5th gen Camaro also have a similar dedictated CAGs fuse slot where one of these could be used? If someone with an Owner's manual could look it up that would be appreciated. It will either be identified by a "CAGS" or "SKIP SHIFT" or "MANUAL TRANSMISSION SOLENOID" designation in the fuse block diagram. See the following link for more details on the C6 disable...if this can be done on a 5th Gen. Camaro as well, that would be very interesting to know: http://xse.com/leres/z06/cags.html Last edited by bub; 05-26-2009 at 10:04 PM. |

CAGS
Any reason why you can't just launch the car in second gear to bypass the 1st-4th lockout of 2nd and 3rd gear?
My guess is this car (LS3) should have plenty of torque to launch without hurting the clutch. |

Isn't 15mph too slow for 4th gear? I would think the car would either stall or feel like you're driving through heavy mud.

Low RPM's is one of the factors used to determine whether or not the CAGS engages, and if you're launching the car you should be well over the RPM threshold where the CAGS kicks in before you ever think about shifting out of first. |

I'll take the fix where I don't have to solder anything.

I should have been more specific. By "launching" I just mean starting normally from a standing stop. Not trying to accelerate quickly or anything. My guess is you can keep the RPMs up in 1st gear anyway if your are "launching" to defeat the CAGS. If you are just driving to conserve gas mileage (or your driving record) using 2nd gear instead of 1st as your starting gear, and accelerating to 20mph+ before shifting to 3rd should do the trick, right? Seems to me if you are not in 1st at all the 1st-4th algorithm won't kick in. |

Ahhhh - ok. I've always understood "launching" to mean getting into it and taking off quickly. Makes more sense now. You're right - one of the parameters for CAGS to engage is the car has to be in 1st gear, so if you start in 2nd you'll never have it come up. I've never had a problem getting the RPM's up in first gear unless I was sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic - thats usually the only times I saw the CAGS engage and even in that case, it usually engaged right about the time I had to slow down again, so there was never a shift anyways. While the car will start in 2nd, you have to slip the clutch more, and it seems like that would reduce the life of the clutch - but then again, maybe not. You can either defeat the CAGS with the eliminator for a few bucks, or just drive it and learn to work around the CAGS - either way, it'll be a blast!!!! |

The reason the CAGS is disabled by so many people is because its intrusive when you dont need it to be.
Its so easy to disable it that you will want to do it after you first encounter it. |
