Z28 may be 6th Gen.

GM-Hi Tech performance says the GM is already working hard on 6th Gen and the Z28 is looking to be released with it. Now they are speculating some but some of this is coming from Karl Stracke VP of Global Engineering. He is changing so many things so it could be.

I just put money down and got on the list at my local dealership to be the first one to get a Z/28 when they come out. They are telling me that it should be about a year or a little more off and that it will be a 2012 on an all new platform. I guess we'll see if it was worth me giving them a deposit to hold the first spot this far out.

It's not like I have any more information than anyone else here, but I just think that there's just no way in Heck that a new platform will be out around '12. Camaro's been out for only a year, and for GM to release a new platform that fast is probably nearly unheard of in this day and age. If they make us wait for the next generation for Z28, that's a really bad idea.

I have faith, though, we'll see it in the next year or so; maybe just in time for a 45th Anniversary special edition

I have to agree , and that's what I told me dealer friend when he said that. For me it doesn't matter if it's this car or a new platform. I just want one ,and thats why I'm on the list. Things seem to move quickly in the car world these days so I guess it could happen.

I'm not in the market for the Z, but I think GM would be making a mistake if they wait to release the Z on the new platform. That is if the release date for the 6th Gen is still tentatively set for 2015. People want it now and not 5 years from now.

Well they talked about the new platform trying to be lighter to fight Mustang. I would love to see it come out at a decent price and even give a Shelby a run for the money.

Out in left field thought:

Are they modifying the chassis to work on the new alpha platform for the 2012 model year?

As far as everything I've heard, they wouldn't be adapting the Camaro to the alpha platform until 2015-ish, which I could see the Camaro garnering the "6th Gen" moniker at that point. But for them to bump the time table up to 2012 just seems a tad premature...

Maybe they're trying to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar too
