Paint has fibers embedded?
I just bought a used 2010 SS/RS. This weekend was my first chance to really wash and wax the car. I noticed that there appears to be fibers or hairs embedded in the paint. I dont see how this could happen with factory paint.
I'm starting to think this car was repainted. It is a CPO with low mileage. No documented accidents. Anyone else seen fibers and other stuff embedded in the factory paint? Will Claying and polishing fix this? Or should I go back to the dealer and ask WTF? Thanks |

Go back and see what they say. That should be the first step. Nothing would surprise me with the paint they put on this car. Absolutely nothing.
If they won't help you out, then yes, clay, see what that does.

Whats supprising is that, these fibers appear everywhere! Its almost like the car was painted, wiped down with a cotten towel, and then clearcoated. Its really not noticable unless you really look, but I'm worried that if the paint work has these flaws, what other problems will I have in the future.

Mine has factory craters, runs and fibers. Dealership is giving me a hard time about fixing the issues and I bought it new so I can only imagine what you'll be dealing with. Good Luck!!

Crap, I just re-read and noticed you bought it used.
Yeah, the dealer isn't gonna do a thing, I'm guessing. That sucks. Still worth a shot though, you might have a super nice dealer that wants to make it right.

If all else fails look into having the car wet sanded and polished out.

I cant imagine your cars having these fibers, craters, and runs.. My factory is flawless with minimal orange peel. My only complaint is how the bumpers and gas door does not match the paint of the rest of the car. Do you have any pictures of this??

Most manufacturers paint their bumpers off-site by third-party and have them shipped in. That is why you (usually) cannot order pre-painted bumpers and trim. The slight color variation is normal. |

My car was ordered brand new....paint had multiple imperfections on arrival at the dealership. Debris in clear coat, paint runs, ect. Not easy to see, but they are there. For fear of making things worse, I decided not to fix most of them.

Maybe this is just the excuse I need to wrap my car in matte black.

I am still kind of curious if the OP's problem is something that can be buffed out.. |
