I don't consider any of the Walmart/auto parts stores to be supporting anything "local", they are huge corporations that stock mainstream stuff.....just my opin....

Supporting local is more than just the business, it's the people working there.

With that said, my purchases are all based on price. Which typically means the majority are mail order. If it's something I KNOW I can get local for a similar price I will, but I'm not driving around looking for it. It also depends on what you are shopping for. In this case, most all of the quality products are not carried locally (as noted previously).

Well, we're getting a bit convoluted...I too will buy locally if it's something I know I can get. Meguir'se Ultimate Compound is everywhere and one of the best at what it does. All degreasers/cirtus cleaners, I'll get locally - same with Meg's gold class car wash.

My comment was one we see on all the boards everywhere, and that is some just don't want to pay shipping charges, and therefore buy less than stellar stuff as it's down at the corner. I really don't think for most it's to support the local min wage worker at wally world.....

I agree with you, I'm just saying there is more to "local" then the store name. There are many that get too hung up on the "support your local business" mentality. For me, it's about the product and the cost.

And in most cases (at least for me), buying locally means paying sales tax, online typically incurs shipping, so that's a non-issue to me.

agreed....and I think many simply think that all the stuff is the same with diff labels. So why not get the stuff at the local "auto price world". I know for the 20 years I considered my car to be a semi hobby, I thought that. I used turtle wax in a bottle, "Kit wax" ,car washes, etc...Things changed for me when I got my first orbital and suddenly realized I was spending way too much effort, that was not necessary!

But the truth is once you get into this thing, you see that products are VERY different and do diff things. I am always amazed when I get a new product that really does something I did not expect - ease of use, more gloss etc....Not everyone has the same chemists....LOL
