Camaro and Genesis Brakes comparison.

A V6 Camaro doesn't have Brembo's and yet it stops better than a Hyundai Genesis with Brembos, according to Car and Driver.

What's the deal?

Apples vs. Cranberries

You have to look at many, many factors such as the type and diameter of the rotor, the calipers and piston sizes/amounts and the entire braking system from foot pedal to the pads. Then add to that the weight of the vehicle, incline +/-, temperature, humidity et al.

brake balance is the key, but in hot laps the genesis will out do the v6 camaro due to the calipers being more resistant to heat and fade. and i'm sure u'll beable to find a used set of SS brembo setup soon enough to swap. some people will probably swap for stoptech's or brembo 6 piston setup. i know one member did. and brembo claims that cars that come with brembo's arent as good as what they sell for aftermarket.

FWIW unless GM isn't using PBR anymore their brake systems are very good and simply having 'Brembos' wouldn't give it any significant benefits other than brand name recognition unless the hardware was drastically different (6 piston vs 2, 13 inch rotors vs 10 inch, etc). As mentioned though brake fade, durability, etc while making laps is where the Brembo benefits should apply...

As others have said, brembos don't necessarily decrease stopping distance, but they will reduce fade.

A good brake system reduces stopping distance as well as brake fade.

Look at the ZR1, it doesn't stop from 60-0MPH in 96ft by magic. The 15.5" Carbon ceramic rotors and 8 piston Brembo calipers are the reason for that.

However, the calipers are only as good as the brake system. You can install Brembos on any car, but if the rest of the braking system sucks, its pointless. The Nissan 350Z Nismo and Hyundai Genesis are good examples of this. Both have Brembo calipers, but neither offers exceptional brake performance. In a Car & Driver braking test, the 350Z Nismo had such bad fade after a couple stops that the pedal sank to the floor and stayed there. The Hyundai Genesis gets outperformed by a V6 Camaro with single piston calipers. Brembos are nothing more than advertising if the rest of the braking system isn't up to par with the calipers.
