The marlins and nationals have the highest operating income (because they don't spend $$ on payroll).

ALL teams operating income was on the + side except for the Yanks (probably because of the new stadium costs, and their payroll)...and the Tigers (probably because Detroit is hurtin' right now, and they have a high payroll).

When the Yankees won their last 4 titles it was with home grown players, older guys like Boggs, Strawberry, and some good solid guys like O'Neill and Tino Martinez. They weren't a big power team. They've actually been less successful since they started signing more free agents. All a big salary guarantees you is that the player has already reached his peak.

As much as I like this.....All sports have become a gun for hire type thing.
