V6 Oil Life Monitor readings

I’m beginning to think there may be a problem with mine; I hope not but would like to try and confirm it.

I’ve seen people on these board with 8-10K miles on their current oil change with >20% left on the OLM.

I’ve been tracking my monitor, today I am at 2806 (since my last oil change) and I only have 47% left, from my readings this seams very low, but I’d like to gauge it and see.

Can some of my V6'ers post some of their recent stats? Thanks for the help!!

Are you sure your OLM was reset after your last oil change. I do mainly Hwy miles and can get 10,500 miles. I usually change it at 8 or 9K though. Best way is to go for another oil change and reset it again and see if that works. Im guessung it was never reset.

I reset it myself, so I am 100% sure it was reset. I drive around 200 miles a week, 50% HW,/50% city, all in "S" mode.

Here are my stats (from Onstar) since getting the car:

Email Date%-----Remaining Oil----- LifeOdometer (Miles)
06/21/2011---------------96%--------------------135
07/22/2011---------------78%--------------------1151
08/21/2011---------------100%------------------2444
09/20/2011---------------87%--------------------3129
10/19/2011---------------69%---------------------4047
11/19/2011---------------51%---------------------4991

That seems right to me. It appears you drove 2,500 miles and are at 51% of oil life. No? I am a big fan of not going more than 5,000 on an oil change.

Correct, but is that actually correct. I see others easily getting 8-10K on their OLM. So which is correct?

Just a guess - but do you drive a lot of city? It will lower the oil life if you do, or a lot of short trips?

My daily commute is 36 miles, 18 city/18hw. On the weekends, it's mostly city.

Both are correct. The system takes into account all kinds of factors, so one person will need an oil change after 3000 miles and another at 10000. That's the point of the system - it does not just count miles.

Interesting, I knew there could be some differences, I just did not think that drastic.

MY first oil change was at 1,600 mi. My next was at 3,000 mi, i don't go by that OLM. i reset my OLM but i use my trip #2 for mileage when when it hits 3,000 i change oil and filter,i have changed my oil 5 times with less than 15,000 mi on car and i don't think it a waste of money. My next one will be Mobile 1

My thoughts - if you drive the car like a normal car then the OLM will likely be correct. If you drive the car like a sports car, then change the oil at least every 5K. Also, be certain to check the oil level at every fill-up. The LLT uses a huge amount of oil and with VVT a small amount of lacking ol can damage the engine.

I have no plans on following the OLM, I plan to change evey 4K miles (I am using Mobil 1). I just wanted to see if I had/have an actual issue.
