Oil Change

Had my first oil change yesterday. Owners Manual told me the car would tell me when I needed an oil change. The guy at Jiffy Lube looked at me like I had just beat my wife when I told him I was having my first oil change at 10,700 miles. Should I change it more often? The camaro first told me to "change oil soon" at 10,600 miles.

I change mine every 4000 to 5000. I know cars these days especially those using synthetic oil dont need it as often but old habits die hard.

Mine says I have around 50% remaining and I am at approximately 5000 miles. I usually run 7-8000 mile range on my oil.

Changed mine at 500 (after hard break in), 1500, 3000, 5000, 7500(ish) 10,000... prob will after a track day at about 12,000 cuz its been a really long time since I have.

I dont drive it alot, it only has 11,500 and its over 2 years old. But I do alot of track days and the drag strip a couple times.

10,000+ miles is a little excessive if you ask me. I don't know if it's true with ALL Camaro models, but my 2SS came with Mobil 1 synthetic oil. My Chevy dealer charges $89.95 for an oil change.

When it comes to conventional oil, I'm old school, every 3 to 4,000 miles, but with the synthetic, I go 7 to 8,000 miles between oil changes. Studies have shown, that with todays engines, frequent oil changes are not only unnecessary, but also a waste of oil and $$$.

One final note, you can do what you want, it's your vehicle, but I would NEVER take anything to Jiffy Lube, or any other quick oil change place for that matter. I've heard too many horror stories about stripped out drain plugs or loose drain plugs that fall out, and those places won't stand behind their mistakes.

I paid $104 at Jiffy Lube. I know that's a lot but I figured my dealer would charge even more? and I sure as hell wasn't going to take it to a small independent shop. Sounds like the dealer would have been better and cheaper.

But on a side note...I'm afraid to take it to the dealer because I have a K&N CAI. From everything I've read this shouldn't void my warranty but considering my check engine light is coming on because of it...I'm skeptical.

I think 10,000 is to long to wait, no more than 5,000 is a safe way to keep the internals more clean, but its your car your call

The dealer is not that much more expensive and that way, GM has records of the maintenance.

I have waited to 10k miles on most of my vehicles, never had a problem on my Chevies.
I had a Ford way back in the 80s and I changed the oil religiously and documented all the maintenance on the car.........it completely failed me at 47k miles, needless to say-that was the last straw with Ford and I havent owned one since.
Changing your oil is all up to you, I am now at 8000 miles on Lil' Blue and am starting to look at getting the oil changed, I am going to do it myself, I refuse to pay $70~$110 for someone else to do it.

Well, for my camaro I change the oil before a garage it for the winter. Which last year was 1500 miles. On my Impala, I change it every 3,000 miles.
