I am 48 years old w/clean driving record, and was told it would go up $90 every 6 months on my 2SS. I get the bill and it actually went up $150?
I drive 0.8 miles to work one way, the F150 I was driving 25 miles one way?

So local people told me I should talk with Farm Bureua. I go in their office and immediately the agent wants to know what I'm paying at SF. I decline to give her this info., and just ask what my rate will be with FB.
1st quote is 1600 every 6 months.

I stand up to leave and the rep says wait a minute, "how far do you drive to work? Have you had any claims in past 4 years?" 0.8 miles and no claims ever. "Ok now we can do it for $600."

So I say "I'm paying less than that, thank you for your time", as I'm at the door she says, "If you get renters insurance for around $50 a month, we can do it at $510."

I feel like I'm dealing with a used car salesperson or a vinyl siding salesperson! What if someone said yes to the 1600? I didn't come here because I need renters insurance.

I realize I can check around, but every time you do this they pull your credit, you get a hard pull against your score, and it goes down.

Is their an insurance company that actually gives you the best rate up front?

All insurance companies have a license to steal. Its a must have but I have no love for them.

Insurance..... agreed value is the only way to go. Low rates = headaches when something actually happens. Some have more luck than others but they almost always try to squirm out of spending the money you pay them. They are all the same except specialty insurance.

In 31 years of driving (knock on wood) I haven't been in an accident that was my fault.
I am just glad to find a somewhat reasonable rate (392) for 6 months versus the 577 that my provider (State Farm) required for the same coverage.
So now I can use the 185 I saved for something else.
A 5 gallon container of Adams Car Shampoo would be nice!

I see no one from NJ has chimed-in yet. Well, if you wanna biotch about insurance rates, come live in this state! I was paying $1400 a year for my 2014 Camaro. No tickets in 15 - 20 years, I can't even remember. I added it to my Grundy policy instead. Agreed value of $40K, costs me $650 a year, unlimited mileage, no one under the age of 25 can drive it, has to be garage-kept, can not be a backup car. This works for us. We also have a 2002 Vette with Hagerty. I have five other cars so we are good. Insurance though in this state is rediculous to say the least.

The $20 boils my blood out of principle.

As mentioned on page one, my home owners & truck will be due at similar times this fall & going to shop it around at that time.

My wife's van is almost double my truck every 6 months. I cannot figure why maybe since it can haul a bunch of people?? I was told part of it was due to availability/cost of replacement parts in case of an accident

Insurance underwriters write different rates depending upon state and city you live in. That's is why the same car you would insure in Kentucky for the same coverage would cost almost twice as much as if you were living in New Jersey. Even in the same state the rates would be higher in a city with a population of 100k compared to living in a city with less than 25k. It's all one big money making racket for Insurance Companies....

I've been with StateFarm since I started driving 5 years ago. When I bought my Camaro new in 2012 my insurance rate went down for the same coverage compared to my 2007 Pontiac G5 GT. The Camaro was worth 3x the Pontiac yet how it went down blew my mind. Every since then every year I renew my insurance there is a "general rate increase" which is starting to bug me. Unfortunately I can't switch because I need to be covered under my father's plan until I'm 25 or my rate will increase 40%.

Good luck finding a new company.

Got a quote from Haggerty: $1865/yr for $52K coverage, 4000 mi/yr.

That folks, is nearly $.50/mile. Unbelievable.

Monday I'm going to work several of the general insurers mentioned in this thread to see if they beat Esurance. I currently pay $426/6 mon for a 2014 that stickered at $47.7k. I am 60 yo, with a spotless record, FICO of 879, own a almost paid for home etc. I should be an insurer's dream account.

I have SF and never had an issue. My rates are not that high for my personal cars. My 2000 Trans Am Firehawk is about $500 a year, our 2010 Prius is $600. This is full coverage 100/300/100.

My Camaro SS is my company car and it's over 1K a year but that is with 1 million in coverage. We also have a Focus which is a touch less.

You should review the coverage to see what you have before you switch. 25/50/25 is not enough.

Compare apples to apples. I had a friend who had minimum coverage (25/50/25) and the brake lines blew out on his car and a person died in the accident. That was hell to pay, and is still paying.

100/300/100 is the minimum you want.

Go on Grundys website right now and get yourself a quote. I was going to use Haggerty, but they are a complete joke! I use Grundy for two of my cars, very reasonable and no mileage limit.

I think you may be getting hosed, it's hard to say. With my 2014 Camaro and a 2015 CRV I'm at $1100.00 yearly with Geico. I was with Progressive and had 2 hit and runs in 3 months they covered it no problem no increase and they we're ok to deal with. Geico is kind of on thin ice since they keep raising my rates every renewal... but they are still the cheapest for me right now. 10 years no at fault accidents or tickets .... well I had traffic school schhhh. Oh and a V8 would increase my rate 110 bucks per year.
