Got my winter tires put on

I know many of us who want to drive year round are looking at winter tires, so here's what I bought, and what I paid, for those who are interested. I found the best deal at Tirerack.com. Mounting/balancing, lugnuts and lug tool were all included. I went with a black wheel - figured why not go for a little different look for winter?

Wheels - 18x8 MSW Type 16 BLK RED ST $99.00 ea.
Tires - 4 P225/60R-18 Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3 In Stock $145.00 ea.
4 Mount and Balance (No Charge)
4 315MHz Tire Pressure Sensor $57.00 ea.
4 Optional Black Metal Valve $5.00 ea.
Total with shipping was $1,322.94

They came in the other day. I was going to wait a couple weeks until it was consistently below 50, but~

Last week, I found one of my rear tires was going flat. My husband found a glass shard in it, right where the sidewall meets the tread, of course. He got some guys he knows at a tire shop to try patching it, even though they weren't too sure.

It seemed to work... for four days. Today it was going low again, so we just went ahead and installed the winter tires. My husband "properly" broke them in for me LOL.

I wondered if the ride or handling would feel different, since the tread is very different from the summer Pirellis, but I really coudn't tell any difference.

Let us know how they handle in the deep snow. I bet you'll probably have to start out in 2nd gear, in order to prevent spinning the rears.

BTW, I wouldn't do burnouts with the snows. They're EXTREMELY soft.

I know one thing...it does NOT depend on what tires I have in deep snow!

With the ground effects, a snowball would hang me up!

Hopefully I won't have to find out about deep snow - got them mainly because the Pirellis are unsuitable in low temps. Hopefully they'll do well if I have to drive home from work on sloppy roads.

No more burnouts, he just did these to wear off the new-tire coating. I would like these to last a few winters!

Thanks for the compliments, everyone!

Looks good!

My '95 has been a daily driver since it was new. I have Bridgestone Blizzaks that I bought in '96. This past winter, in 4-5" of snow, I was passing many SUVs on the highway on my way to work. The Tire Rack is absolutely correct: If you don't have the right tires, you won't go anywhere. I was able to pass those SUVs because they were on A/S passenger car tires and not dedicated winter treads.

As mentioned by someone else in a previous post above, the only thing that stops my '95 is when the snow is more than 5-6" deep because it drags against the entire pan of the car.

Looks much better than I expected from the description (a picture is worth how much again?), looks very nice.

No problems I take it fitting over the disc and Brembo's huh?

Thanks, all!

No Brembos - this is a 2LT. 18's won't work on SS's.

Haha... that is the exact same set I want to get in a couple weeks for my (future on order) IOM 2LT. I wasn't sure how those black rims would look but now I know they should be fine. The red stripe on the tires should still work well with the IOM exterior.

BTW did you use a different PSI on these tires vs. the stock Pirellis?
