This is what happens when you let Politics in the Door
I am sorry folks, but this one really ticks me off big time. When Washington says the Detroit three should design and build quality vehicles taht are competitive, they then push these folks over the cliff by tacitly forcing them to abandon technology development that would make them competitive with the Europeans and Pacific Rim Manufacturers.
If this is how all this will shake out, this is patenetly a slap in the face of the American consumer. Am I mad, hell yes! Not only at the politicians, but also at whom ever in the Corporate Tunnels made a decision like this to cave into such garbage. What an unmitigated crock of excrement! Once again the American Consumer gets screwed!!! It is just like 1972 all over again!

irpq11, I think you are right on the first two points, but I swear I saw two Camaro looking robots at the coffee station last week. I recognized the grill.

It must be really disappointing for the GM employees from the disbanded engineering division. I'm sure they were people that wanted those jobs because they were car performance enthusiasts and really loved what they did. IMHO, they have done some of their very best work over the past few years and seemed to be really hitting their stride.
To go from working on Corvette's and CTS's and Camaro's to who knows what they'll be doing down the road must be a real let down for them. Hopefully there will be a time in the future where they can come together again and do what they really love. |

If this is just to be in line with the feds viability, then when GM gets back in the black, all those HP engineers will be back to what they do best.

After some time to think about it, this might be a good decision. GM is at a good place with it's performance/SS/V cars and is setup nicely until they are ready to update the Cobalt SS to the Cruze SS. It would be crazy to abandon performance in the long term there is money to be made, but it might be best if for the next year (or two at the most) these people worked on other projects.

Not a whole lot at this moment. I will hear more as this unfolds.

I just thought about this. Man we really cut this down to the wire didn't we. Fbodfather said we were safe 5 months ago when all of this scary stuff started happening. Good call! I don't want to play poker with that man.

Ok a few things.
1. It's not 15 years ago, comparisons to cars 15 years ago simply are not valid. 2. Watch your mouth about obama, without him GM would prob have gone under already. Bush and other GOP snobs driving their imports were only too happy to watch GM fail. 3. Things change every single year with cars, I wouldn't be surprised if there's no 2012 SS camaro, if not the 2011 getting scrapped too. But we don't know. No one knows. Anyone pretending to know, is full of it. |
