Got the same response from the minister.
Garfin - All valid points - but seem to be less valid in the many jurisdictions that don't require front plates. hmmm... Interesting that you just got a warning from the female cop - not sayin' just sayin'.... And I guess it depends on the insurance company, but I've never heard of premiums being affected by minor traffic offences such as this. It would be like your rate going up for a parking ticket. Points, at fault accident or charges laid - different story. That's my experience anyway - these days - who knows.

has anyone actually installed something like the Swift hideaway holder on their camaro? Seems like a great option, but I don't know how you could install that on the front of the 2010.

would love to see some pics once you get that installed.
If it's a good fit, I might even consider getting that remote controlled one that they have... although I don't know how well that would go over with a cop lol "what do you mean officer? If you look again, you'll clearly see that I have a front plate!" *pushes remote button* |

I got a response from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario today. The bottom line is that they have tried to eliminate the front plate issue in the past, but keep getting shot down (no pun intended) by law enforcement officials. They claim it's useful in vehicle enoforcement. As for the dealer plates there is a section in the HTA (Highway traffic Act) that gives them permission to use only one plate when the vehicle they are driving is part of their inventory and is being transported for one point to another. They advised that if we feel there is dealer misuse, than we should report it to the police.
My expectations came true, but I'm glad they responded and did so very promptly.

"Ontario motor vehicle dealers licensed under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act are eligible for the new Dealer Plate/Permit. The new Dealer Plate/Permit is a single portable plate with the word "DEALER" on the left side and red alpha-numeric characters on a white background. It is for exclusive use by motor vehicle dealers only on motor vehicles owned as part of the dealer's inventory of vehicles for sale. It may be used for private use in Ontario or for purposes related to the sale of motor vehicles that are owned as part of the dealer's inventory of vehicles for sale. "

I like the swift plate holder but it looks/works
well only on flat front cars, might be a little wonky looking on a pointed front end like the camaro |
