It's hard to fault the A6 trans GM put in the ZL1. I really wanted an auto; but I just couldn't pass up the deal on my M6. I think my next car will be an auto. With that said, I've come to appreciate the M6 as I become a better driver. No lift shifts and rev matches are second nature and I've gotten my 0-60 down to 3.21 sec while practicing my launches.

Age is a factor for some of us. When I was younger, all I wanted was a stick. Now I appreciate a good automatic. The fact the ZL1 came with an automatic was a large factor in getting one. Now I have a 2014 Corvette on order, it will come with an automatic.

I'm not even that old (that's what I keep telling myself at least) but after 10 years of driving stick it was time for a change. No regrets!

That is what I struggled with for about a week before I ordered my car. Wife wanted a standard but I had seen her driving a standard before and she scared the crap out of me! I knew she was going to be driving the Z so I did not want a warranty claim on a clutch or a tranny so I went with the auto. I am glad I did and have no regrets with it. If I want it to shift like a manual I use the paddles.

100%, I was looking at it the same way.

Love both transmissions. I have driven both and they both perform! To say one is better than the other is just opinions. More depends on the type of driving you do or want to do.Track vs daily driving. To say auto drivers are for wimps, old or woodie is a joke. I know a guy who lost his left leg due to cancer. He had a 6spd Vette and traded it in on a auto. If an auto wasn't produced he would no longer be able to drive the car he loves. Some comments made by people here saying the auto should never have been produced twist me up. EVERYBODY deserves the opportunity to own and drive their dream car regardless of the way it shifts. The transmission is a very small part of what this car is all about. Had a 6spd rs/ss and loved it. Now have a A6 ZL1 and love it !

Sometimes, after a hard day's work at the office, or any strenuous activity the last thing I want to do is shift. Especially in traffic. I love that the manual is alive and well. Before buying I test drove this car several times and they were all manuals. Never even knew what the Auto felt like. Still I bought the Automatic, although at the very end it was a tough decision but one I'm glad I made. I came to the ZL1 from the world of motorcycles so I am very familiar with the idea of shifting on your own to get the absolute most from a performance machine, but as I get older comfort and convenience have won me over.

I don't think so. When I did this on my 2010 you just pop the OEM ones out and those snap in. However the 2010 steering wheel is different so it could be a different installation procedure as well.

Nope, 5 minute install. Turn the wheel, push the retaining pin out, reverse the procedure. Do the same on the other side.

Where did you get them from? I need to get those ASAP and I forgot who on here made them when I got them for my 2010.

There is nothing boring about a 600+ rwhp A6. Very easy to make every drive a thrill ride
