Are you guys ready for a book?
Good! Then here is my story! I don't know how many people still read this blog, seeing as much of the excitement has worn off since most people bought their IBM in '09. However, since I am only now purchasing, I hope somebody still reads this! So why a Camaro? I suppose everybody has a different answer. Mine lies in my previous car history. My first car was a '93 Ford Aerostar, forest green, short version. I lovingly referred to her as "The Box". It had at least 100hp! I drove this van throughout high school (did my dad realize giving a 16 year old boy a minivan was an awesome idea? I tend to think yes!!) and my some of college, 5 years in total. Good first car. Up next, an '02 Saturn SL-1, silver. If you don't know this model of Saturn, it is possibly the least stylish car ever imagined. No acceleration (maybe 120hp at best), no room, no style (but realiable). This was the next 5 years of my driving life. Ok, so I'm only 25 now (you can call me Dr. 25, thank you!) but after 10 bland, listless years of driving, I want something exciting!! Enter the Camaro. I recently graduated pharmacy school (spring '10), and have just now built up enough money for a decent downpayment. I chose IBM in large part thanks to all of you who have posted on this site. Did anyone else have to argue with their girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/significant other/whatever about which model to get? My girlfriend was very sure that I should get the V6 automatic. Of all people to help convince me that she was wrong, my dad was the final person to convince me. Since I had never bought a new car before, I took him to the dealer with me. We test drove both V8 and V6 models, and when we were almost done with the V6, he said, "Son, this is your daily driving vehicle. Are you going to regret that you didn't get exactly what you want every single time you get in this car, or are you going to get the car that you want?" Well, that sealed it!! I pretty much splurged my ass of with this car, but I don't regret it at all! So here I am, late January, with my order produced and en route. I think I may keep the Saturn as a winter driver, but that does not mean I will be storing this beauty. Perhaps once the proverbial shininess wears off, I may, but not yet. Not yet for a long time. Finally, the issue of naming. Like I said, I'm a pharmacist now, and I was thinking of naming her Zoloft. You see, Zoloft is blue and makes you happy. I suppose Viagra is the same, but too obvious for my taste. What have other people named their's? So there is my story that nobody asked for. Thanks everybody for posting, it was most helpful in making my own decision. Happy driving everybody!!!!!!! |

Congratulations on your purchase, and yes people do still read this thread. Be sure to post pictures as soon as you can, because most people with IBM don't go with black stripes and I would like to see how yours turned out.
As far as naming goes, I have been a big Transformers fan since I was probably 5 or 6. One of my favorite characters from the original cartoon was named Bluestreak. He's the silver one next to his "twin" Prowl. At first I had no intent of using a Transformers theme on this car, but then they released the Transformer's Edition car and I decided to create my own version based on that styling. With my car already being blue, the name was an obvious choice. Oh, and by the way, I'm 25 as well! Edit: I just noticed you're in Columbus, OH so you're not too far from me. I would like to invite you to look at this thread and watch for upcoming meets and events. I don't know how far you are willing to travel for these types of things, but member jrhaus76 who is from southwest Ohio keeps an eye on it and makes it out for some of the events and informs those of us from Indiana about meets in Ohio. Perhaps you could get in touch with him and work travel arangements out with him if you're interested. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=81280&page=21 |

Jomer5,
Best of luck with your purchase. You picked the most underrated color, IMHO, in the Camaro lineup, but one of the best. You will not regret your choice. I have Cyber Gray Metallic stripes and many of my friends like how they are subdued. But some others remarked that they thought black stripes would look good also, and I never really gave it a thought. Please post pictures when you take delivery of yours as I am really curious how they will look. I went through some of the same thought processes as you when I started out to buy my Camaro. I thought a V6 at 300+ HP would be more than enough for my needs and didn't seriously consider the SS. Then I was having a conversation with my mechanic for my 2000 Blazer and told him what I was thinking about doing. He does a lot of Camaro and Corvette rebuilds and he asked me why I would go with the V6 over the V8. After explaining myself, he said that I should keep my Blazer as my daily driver because it is still running great after 165,000 miles, and do whatever it took to buy the SS. He said that I would keep my insurance costs down, because the Camaro would not be my daily driver, my maintenance costs for the Camaro would be less because I would not be putting as many miles on it, and finally, he told me that the resale on the SS will be much better over time than the V6. After taking all that into consideration, and then test driving the SS, there was no question which one I would be purchasing. As far as a name for the car, I gave mine the name of the first words out of my mouth after test driving the SS that I said to my wife..."It's a f*%#ing ROCKET!!! So I call mine the Rocket. Again, good luck and looking forward to your pics when it arrives!!!

Definitely go for the White. I'd love to see what they would look like. IMO Chrome overlays on any color car are kind of tacky looking.

I also got help deciding on a 1SS and 2SS and am glad I went with the 2SS IBM with silver strips. I have had her for two weeks and love the power of this car. I will post pictures tonight. I live very close in Dayton. When need to get a central Ohio get together.
