It's in the throttle for minutes instead of seconds. Maybe not WOT for minutes, but various levels of power output for minutes. Totally different breed of cat vs a street car/occasional quarter mile warrior. You might have a little fun on a road course before you cook a component or two, but it's a question of "when", not a question of "if".

EDIT: If you're serious about road racing, start with a Z06 vette. You can probably add 15 or 20 thousand bucks to your Camaro and a bone stock Z06 will probably smoke yo ass and live to tell about it.
I also go through brake pads and rotors on the road track. Everything else has been just fine. You are right tho - it is almost WOT for about 15-20 minutes at a time.

He is absolutely right. The stock Z is a road course champion right out of the factory.

Couldn't agree more - I had 2 of them - a C5 then a C6...I sold the C6 last year, as I only get to track 4-5 times/year, and the Z was just a heart-breaker to drive on the street - couldn't have any real fun!!! I made myself sell it after my last law breaking jaunt. Not worth going to jail over, and I decided to save some money. To put it in perspective, I am only putting about 4K miles on these cars/year, so a good portion of it is getting to, from and on the track.

I think the Camaro is a great platform, and, frankly, I am having more fun getting this car to a higher level a little at a time versus the Z which, as you note, doesn't need a damn thing (aside from brakes for sure and tires if you want more).

The track is begging the Camaro for more, though. Last event was part of a Corvette club. Surprisingly only a couple of Zs there. Tell you what, it was a blast roasting a bunch of "intermediate" Vette drivers in a Camaro...They were less than happy : )

If I add the SC, I'd still have $20K less in it than a Z, AND I have the backseat for my little one. He actually came to the track with me last time and loved it.
