The skip shift comment was made to the poster that was insinuating the best way to shift was by driving a manual.

OP you should stay in sport mode for WOT runs, 1/4 mile etc. You'll know why when you hit the brick wall, AKA rev limiter.

Yes the old when to switch gears in a automatic like its a manual in different modes question, the answer is: when you feel like its pulling the hardest if your trying to go fast way up in the revs, for normal driving skip paddle shifting go to sport mode if necessary yet its not all that and the trans needs the tune a modification that voids the warranty. SO in other words I traded mine in for a manual after a year, rarely used paddle shifters especially in slow city driving, and the manual made it feel so much faster, and being a old hot rodder the "shift kit effect" of supposed sport mode was weak...... it like revs it up a little past stock auto shifting point, no kick down real feel, just weak. Yet I am sure after making other mods and a nice torque converter to deal with a cam it would be real nice, and you could stop playing with the paddles as that's what it felt like to me, more over rather annoying especially on a turn it was a real bummer, and preferred sport mode instead.
The automatic is supposed to be automatic, that's the point, that's why you buy a automatic, and on older hot rods its th350 and 400's with shift kits, maybe varied from stock gearing and beefed internals, and a torque converter, and if your a dragster like a copo your a power glide putting down 9 second quarters with one shift to second, not playing with paddles trying to be Ferrari Fred.
