But first you need a $6500 key cutting machine to cut the blanks. How many dealers do you think have one of these cutting machines?

Mine does and they didn't act like it was a big deal. I don't think they are a large dealer by any means, it seems like the recent economic meltdown eliminated most of the smaller dealers.

People, people, it's only a key....

I don't give a rat's butt about what the fob looks like, all I want is for the dealer to cut the keys for the 2LT RS they are holding for me. I have no attachment to the key fob we have now, just fix the friggen issue so people can get their cars.

If you wish to not participate in the recall, that is your decision. GM did what they had to do to fix the issue, if you don't like the fix, nobody is twisting your arm to do it....

An no, I am not a fan of how GM is handling the issue, but to me it's more about the car I want than what the fob looks like.

I was just answering the post, it has nothing to do with the cost if the machine or how many dealers have them.
The real keys will be sent out from GM is all I was getting at.

GM won't be cutting your keys, the dealer will, assuming he has a key cutting machine. Don't know how GM will handle if the dealer doesn't have a key cutting machine.

if a dealer was smart, the dealer can have a local locksmith cut blank GM keys for them.

this way they could get the new cars to their new owners ASAP

My dealer tried that. GM said no since it was a generic non OEM key. Back to square one.

Here's what it looks like. No bowtie on the key means I can't take it home even though the recall has been technically done.

so even if the new keys come in.. no one can take their cars home until the recall is lifted?
