The same test car driver tested all of these cars, in order to take out that variable if I'm not mistaken. They try multiple runs in order to attain the best 0-60 times, doing it 20-30+ times over and over and over...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you all may be missing one vital part of all this. The manual tested mustangs likely had the track pack, or at least the 3.31s. This auto had the 2.73 gears. All V6 Camaros come with 3.27 gearing, so the tall gearing in the stang slowed her down enough to give the Camaro the win....especially approaching 90 - 100mph.

Well if he was doing that, why didn't he post the manual vehicles times? Especially with the title of "camaro out running mustang" |

Funny how they didn't mention anything about top speed in the M/T article. I know the auto Mustang is speed limited a lot lower than the 2LT with 19" Pirelli tires. I think the old Challenger was speed limited to 130 MPH and I have no idea where the limiter is on the Hyundia. For me I still made the best selection, I'll stick with my Camaro.

I guess the OP has a different Chart than the one he posted. I don't see where the camaro is faster than the mustang. They both ran the same time. Plus they used the mustang with the airplane gears in it. Not a fair comparison. I hope the GM guys that complain about Motortrend see this. They tried to get the camaro to win and still couldn't quite do it.

I'd say the fact that the mustang was brand new hurt it more than the gears. It's pretty sad to get that trap speed out of a car that private owners are trapping over 100mph in. Maybe the mustang's auto trans is just super sloppy and slow shifting. Seems like the autos will be a really close race.

That's a big maybe as far as v6's go considering these two ran exactly the same quarter mile times, there are multiple gear options for the mustang, this being the tallest, and the camaro was broke in. As far as v8 goes, that's the opposite of the truth. Looks like the auto v6 mustang and v6 camaro are pretty much dead even with an advantage to the camaro if the mustang has 2.73's. Of course this is based on one magazine tests. Private owners are getting faster times in both.

Are you sure ?? The Mustang GT auto is geared slightly more for fuel efficiency and on normal everyday gas makes 402 horsepower.... plus it weighs a tad more than the manual...I would say Camaro SS with it's huge torque advantage and wider rear tires.... then again could go either way. Plus the same test driver recorded all the times(did 25-30 different 0-100 runs with each car and used the stats from best time) for all of the cars, on the same surface, same temperature, same air pressure, etc. Though the surface they tested on may have been less than optimal.

As far as "normal every day gas" if you mean 87 octane, the camaro isn't even supposed to run on 87, so I don't know why you would compare the mustang running 87 to the camaro running the recommended 91+. |

91 is not requirerd with the SS.... just trying to make a best case for the Camaro, it is possible it could win, good driver to good driver. |
