Cool video.... I had a '98 Formula that had many combos over the ten years I owned it. One early one was a 422 cid iron stroker, went 11.02@122.5 MPH that was fun.

So do you notice the 3200 at all? The L99 has a deep first gear I think.

Oh sure. It was less streetable because of the exhaust and cam (LOUD and RUMBLED) more than the torque converter.

However, don't drive a 500hp car with a 4200 stall in a 4th of July parade. Trust me on that one. 1 hour at 1 mph and I almost melted the tranny, had to bail out on the parade, oh the embarassment.

Yes, it is noticeable, especially with the L99 AFM. With the 3200 stall, it needs to rev 2000-3000 to get moving, and solidly moving at 3200. The AFM tries to engage at low speeds 1500-2200, but the engine wants to rev higher, so there's confusion.

Basically, I'm going to disable AFM in gears 1, 2, 3. That or I may be able to tweak the shifting properties.

But remember, AFM is not on manuals (yet) because it relies on the Torque Converter to smooth the transition. With the higher stall, the transition is not as smooth as it could be.

Day off today, so the JBA Shorty Headers went in.

Out with the old, in with the new (pics below). Install was pretty much as expected. Managed to do it in my backyard, by myself, without pulling the plugs. Didn't break anything as far as I can tell. I haven't started it yet because I've got a few loose ends to tie up tomorrow morning.

Fitment of the JBA Shorty Headers with the JBA High-flow Catted Midpipes is near perfect. I may want to replace the gaskets though, as they were flimsy.

Now we'll see where the gains, if any, come with Shorties. Is it the high-flow catted midpipes? Or do the Shorties also add power?

No other changes, and I'll be hitting the track Sunday afternoon in 80* clear weather.

Diameter is the same. The length of each header is designed to optimize by firing order and exhaust pulse. So the length of the short one on the driver's side doesn't matter, only that it's exhaust gas is not getting backed up by other ports. That's the theory, at least.

Oh, BTW, the weight savings is about 5lbs per side. Not much, but the lighter midpipes help too.

Great build!

That thing will be in the 11's very quickly with NO aftermarket heads or cams.

Today would have been perfect, partly sunnny in the low 70's. By Sunday it should be in the low 80's. However, for me that just means a consistent baseline, as most of my major runs have been in the 80's so I can compare apples to apples.

Just did all the fitment checks and took it for a drive. I think guys who love the sound would love this with the shorties and midpipes. SO much better than the stock manifold with the midpipes. The car feels great now too.

Two problems: AFM is noisy as heck when it kicks in. Also, need to replace the cat/manifold gaskets.

Other than that, she's ready for Sunday.

I think, as is, adding timing low, I can cut a 1.6 sixty. With the Shorties and no tuning, I think I can cut a 1.6 also. Then, when I add the 3.45 rear, should be low 1.6's or better.

Alas, won't know till next week. Every track is closed for Mother's Day. :( So it'll be next week before I find out.

Guess I'll go visit mom instead.
