Toyota’s recalls involve unwanted acceleration and, more recently, faulty brakes. It’s strange to see “recall” and Toyota mentioned together -- or “acceleration,” for that matter. But seriously, we don’t feel it’s entirely its fault. While one involves a mechanical issue with accelerators, the other addresses floor mats that aren’t secured or don’t fit, and a third that's just come up is a faulty brake on the brand new Prius. In the case of the floor mats, some consumers could be to blame, not Toyota. Time will tell whether this has a lasting impact on sales (remember how Audi suffered after a few dim bulbs couldn’t differentiate the pedals?).

So, for every Toyota recalled, let’s check out some 2010 domestic alternatives buyers might consider. Let’s be clear: We’re not Toyota bashing. Nor are we implying that every domestic sale came from turned-off Toyota buyers (or Honda, who slumped in January too). However, when you drive some of Detroit’s better products, you realize the former Big Three have potential to reclaim some former glory.

Hm...wouldn't be so bitter-sweet of an article if they didn't apologize for toyota-bashing...and then the "Big Three replacements" article below is foul. :(

i agree tahoe is much better than ford
