As the original article states, it has been signed by our Governor. Now all we need is 7,500 of us to sign up.

Mr Incredible, thanks for clarifying the stipulations on re-manufactured black on yellow plates - I mistakenly thought he would make any combo of up to 7 characters. I will pay the $45 annual fee, so we now need 7,499 more folks to sign up!

I'm curious...if I order new personalized plates now (tired of my current ones), in January can I get them replaced with the black/yellow?

Knowing california, it'll probably cost you the same as starting over. However, I don't think anyone will have a real answer to this. The orders start january but there's no production date set until after the 7500 orders. It could be over a year before any of these show up anyways.

Good point. I'll ask when I pick my new ones up. Hopefully (but doubtful) they'll know.

California Bill to Create Legacy License Plate Program
Signed Into Law

Governor Jerry Brown signed into law legislation (A.B. 1658) to establish the California Legacy License Plate Program. Under the new law, the DMV will create and issue a series of specialized license plates that replicate plates from the state's past. Previously, classic car owners could only revive well-maintained old plates that match the vintage of their vehicle. Among other things, the new law will bring a retro look to modern license plates by allowing consumers to choose from one of three classic designs from the 1950s-1960s (black lettering on yellow background or yellow lettering on black background) and 1970s-1980s (yellow lettering on blue background). The law requires that at least 7,500 applications for any one particular plate must be received by the DMV on or before January 1, 2015.

Yeah, 7500 per plate sucks lol. I'm guessing black/yellow will be more popular though.

Can't order until January, 2013 apparently. I'm not even sure which pair black/yellow or blue/yellow would look better on an AG Camaro.
