I am not crazy about having a liquid acid battery in the trunk either. A guy I work with told me to look into Odyssey / Diehard and this was what I found.

It looks like Sears is selling batteries made by the same company that makes the Odyssey batteries. http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showt...ries-the-rumor

If you search the Sears site for 94R batteries the 02850793000 part number comes up but it is not listed as being for the Camaro. Here are the features listed for this battery.
Product Description

New advanced GoldOur best DeiHard Gold ever
More Power
Longer Life
Genuine AGM Technology

  • 20x More Vibration Protection* - safeguards battery performance over time
  • 2x The Cycle Life* - entends the performance and life
  • Faster Recharging - powers more electronice longer
  • Spillproof Design - provides added protection for sophisticated electronic equipment
  • Enhanced Electronic Suspension System - absorbs more electrolyte and protects internal componets
  • Flat-Plate AGM Design - provides the most efficient use of internal volume for more power-per-pound
  • More Than 250 Quality Control Checks - ensures longest life and durability
  • Made in the USA
If you search for batteries for the Camaro the 02833194000 part number comes up. I don't know if it is the same internal construction. The difference between the two looks to be only the top. I am going to look at getting one of these.

The 02850793000 is on the left below. The 02850793000 is $179. and the 02833194000 $159.

Enersys makes the batteries for Odyssey and Sears. Johnson Controls owns Optima batteries and they are made in Mexico. There are not a lot of different manufacturers of batteries in the US.

I had and optima yellow top, which would go months without being turned on in a car that i would store while i was a away at college.

Every-time i came home the car would start without fail. Yes the yellow top is a bit more expensive, but if your looking for something that can sit for months the redtop is not your answer.

The redtop is not designed for this, and is meant for its CCA.

I think its unfair for people to rip a battery if they are not even using it for its intended purpose.

has anyone here put the Odyssey PC1220 (94R equivalent) battery in their SS? I am partial to Sears DieHard Platinums but it doesn't look like they have one that works for the 94R battery size. I had one in my truck and it lasted about 6 years through Arizona summers too. I'm curious if the Odyssey fit OK, it looks to be virtually the same size as a 94R.

The AGM battery 02850793000 (as well as others) are on sale 25% off until 8/23 if you're interested.

That's 153.88 out the door. The price they show is 189 regular price though. You know, the jack up the price, then take some off. Well, it's still a good deal if you're looking...

EDIT: Oh, snap. They won't ship this. But it's usually in stock at your local Sears or Kmart.

Ah, yeah...just picked me up one of those bad boy Die Hards at Sears. Last one in the store. 153.88 out the door. I was happy. I could have had free installation too, but um, no, sorry. I'll take care of it myself.

The Battery Tender wasn't getting to "float" with the OEM battery, and it is already nearly 5 years old, so I went ahead and took advantage of the sale.

Took about 20 minutes total to swap out the battery and reinstall the new one. Flatblade screwdriver (to expand the post clamps), socket wrench, 10mm and 13mm sockets with a 3" extension was all I used. Of course, I forgot how heavy that rubber accessory floor mat is.
