How Long Does It Take for the Engine to Break In?
I was talking to this guy and he was saying after 5,000 miles. I had heard 1,500 before. What shouldn't I do before it breaks in?

Really? I heard it would be okay after 500 miles. Some with the L99's are having success driving it "spiritedly".

Most guys take it easy for the first 500 miles or so, but I ran my car pretty hard from day one. Nothing crazy but some spirited driving with short wide open bursts. By 300 miles or so I drove my car like I stole it. My car has run great from day one (got my car in early June).
1500 miles is a long break in. 5000 miles is ridiculous. To be honest, your car will be fine no matter how you break it in. I see you have an L99 so you'll need to figure out if your running on the low octane tune or high octane tune. When you get about 500 miles or so on your car I would start driving it fairly aggressively to see how it runs. If it seems kind of slow you might want to try a few 0-60mph runs. You should be able to pull low 5 sec (or faster) 0-60 mph runs. If you can't you'll need to do the fuse pull mod. |

I waited about 800 miles and then started to take it past 65 mph now i have about 1,099 miles on it and i drive it to atleast 78 mph...i was talkin with this guy at the dealership and he said that most of todays cars dont really need a break-in period but he said just wait till you have 500 before you go crazy with it...

I was reading the Adobe .pdf Manual and it says Not to go over 4000 RPM for 1500 Miles for Engine Break In Period.
Hope this Helps. RCPW A.K.A. Jim

LOAD them hard and change the oil often. It’s the ONLY way to properly break in an engine and anyone who says otherwise has not a clue what they are talking about.
Above is an excerpt form the link NHRA posted. I have been building Harley engine for years and this is exactly how I break them in. Load the rings-Change the oil and ride the sh!t out of it! Broke the camaro in the same way- Strong Motor in this car! Baby it and expect a baby! Mike
